Been a while since I heard all of Also sprach Zarathustra.
Coincidentally, I recently acquired Karajan's 1983 recording (http://www.amazon.com/Also-Sprach-Zarathustra-Richard-Strauss/dp/B000001GK1) and it's magnificent. Before that I'd only ever heard the excerpts from the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack, so finally hearing the complete piece after all these years was a revelation. I'm eyeballing that Living Stereo set like a rabid, starving hyena.
NP:
Absolutely gorgeous, majestic work by Atterberg. Most highly recommend for late/post Romantic period fans.
Somewhere in the LP collection I have a boxed set of the Berlin Phil playing all the Strauss tone poems have not listened to it in years because it has not been immediately at hand.
