Alien 3 Superb, thoughtful film. And delicious black humour. Good cast. 8/10.

The Girl On The Train I’d give it an 8 out of 10. Warning, this movie is not for everyone. It is very bleak and dour with unlikeable characters. I thought this movie did the best it could do with the novel, but the movie really focuses on the mystery. In the novel, the mystery brings out the past lives of three female narrators, and the author shows that all three of the women are total IDIOTS when it comes to their relationships with men. We do hear the voices of the 3 women in the movie a little bit, but it can’t probe the depths of their self-destructiveness as effectively as the novel. Still, the movie is well-made. I wish it had been filmed in London instead of New York, but it did sport an effective score by Elman and superb acting by Emily Blunt. I thought all the acting was well-done. It is a depressing movie about self-destructive behaviors, and when I left, I said to my friend that we needed to check out a good comedy.

That's fine, we all watch the films we like & don't watch the films we don't like. I'd agree with that, except looking back i apparently torture myself by watching tripe all the time!

That's fine, we all watch the films we like & don't watch the films we don't like. I try watching films I "think" I might not like all the time. Sometimes I discover, "Yeah, I don't like it," and I shut it off or change the channel. Sometimes thought I'll suffer through it, as I did not long ago with JANE GOT HER GUN (pretty much a complete waste of time). Sometimes, though, I put something on that I think I won't be interested in, and discover it was worth the time. Happened recently with this Penelope Cruz movie MA MA. It's really not that good, but I couldn't turn it off. With the movies you know from word-of-mouth or reviews aren't going to be good, I might give them a try, but usually I loose patience with them quickly. You just know the levelof what you're going to get and it's just not worth the investment in time.

The Brother Grimm 3/10 - a nice idea, the Grimm's going out rustling up trade for their scams and stumbling upon a true fairy tale nightmare. But the central tale isn't that interesting is a big problem, and the story never picks up a gear. It would have looked better pre-CGI too. Some of the CGI is really shoddy and takes you out of the film, better to have models/prosthetics and direct around the problem. It doesn't gel at all well. (though some of the CGI is alright, too). Heath Ledger plays a bit odd in it, and i'm not a fan of his performance here, especially his accent-chewing. Peter stormare also chews the scenery a bit too much. Gilliam films always have acting that varies wildly, and usually i'm alright with it but it grated on me here. The score was pretty decent, with a bit in it that reminded me of the less developed (recent) Godzilla score.

The easy to see titles of my movie collection (eye level shelf) consists of titles like, La Dolce Vita, The Red Shoes, Citizen Kane ect, but the hard to see shelf has stuff like, Anaconda, Year One & Your Highness, The Haunting (remake). I get a feeling that I might like a film, & it usually turns out to be right. There are a number of famous & lauded films that I just don't fancy seeing, & at my age I'm just not going to bother trying them out.

Omen. Watched this film over Halloween, Peck plays the role of an ambassador which soon starts to get out of control from his political role, some little demons seem to unearth information about his baby boy. I personally like the Vicar & the Photographer in there acting roles. My favourite scenes is the vicar meeting Mr Thorn & talks about murdering the antichrist that's pretty creepy & the big storm were the vicar meets his death. Mrs Baylock was also good threw this film, & the epic fight scene at the end was good viewing, the nosey photographer helping Mr Thorn when meeting Bugenhagen + the monks, priests, was all well acted. I liked Remick too a solid actress from start to finish, shame she had to nose dive off the balcony, or out of the window. & not forgetting them hostile monkeys at Windsor safari park zoo. A very good British film, all solid actors & entertaining. 9/10
