It actually started out kind of fast for me. It's like : Stealing of the Rembrandt, Zeta-Jones in front of computer, Zeta-Jones stalking Sean Connery, Sean Connery in Zeta-Jones's hotel room, in about the span of 10-15 minutes. I would have slowed things down in the beginning just a bit, such as explaining how come Zeta-Jones was so 'lonely'. The end was really gripping though, but the end scene with the trains was just too much. I dislike the score by Christopher Young though...too in your face.
I have a few comments about the DVD though, how in the hell do you have deleted scenes WITHOUT dialog? The alternate ending was perfect and subtle, but the director decided to tack on meaningless dialog. The transfer was excellent. I reccommend it on DVD for a blind purchase.
"My Favorite Year" - 8.9 Haven't seen this is maybe 10 years, but it's still great. O'Toole is so good in this. Even if some ( most) of the comedy is just laid on thick, it's a gem of a movie.
Another James Cagney Tour De Force! Here's hoping I can go completely and utterly nuts in a public place just as Cody Jarrett did in stir! (And Virginia Mayo, circa 1949, aaarooga!)
A dreamy werewolf film with an irish tinge, a surprising amount of decapitation and Angela Lansbury. This was on a Danish DVD (English dialogue with removable subtitles, thank the lord). A slightly intrusive, largely electronic score by George Fenton. I kept having to change the volume as the music and the screaming were way too loud compared with the talking.
Some fine bits in it though - especially the wedding party scene. The effects pale a bit in comparison with American Werewolf in London.
"Never stray from the path, never eat a windfall apple and never trust a man whose eyebrows meet"
Excellent. Looks at geeks who know they're geeks and neither feel sorry for themselves nor think they're superior to the world. Buscemi is not my favorite actor but he's outstanding; Thora Birch--I dated this character!
The look of the film is very close to that of the comic, from what I've seen. The cut from the Indian rock film has the most headshaking I've seen since Katherine Hepburn departed. And the ending is just right.
I avoided this when it came out, and the trailer is horrible. But it's a great film.
