Your argument doesn't hold because they used to restore five seasons of "The Twilight Zone" which cost money and even commissioned English subtitles (estimated cost: $5,000).
If they chose not to restore "Combat!" that was their choice and responsibility.

Combat was never transferred to tape in an uncompressed format. That's the reality. And not every rights holder charges the same rate. I'd also note there is a bigger market for TZ to justify extra costs than there is for Combat, which also factors into these decisions.

Plus, TWILIGHT ZONE is owned by CBS/PARAMOUNT who only grants
Image the rights to release it. I don't know who owns COMBAT.

EDIT: Looks like CBS/PARAMOUNT owns COMBAT, too. Oh well.
I guess they didn't feel like remastering this one.

In short, if a series is not popular enough, it's going to be a garbage treatment for sure.
Which means only science fiction series will have a honest treatment and
the rest will end up in the junkyards quality department.
Strange, Fox treated "Lost in Space" badly from what I heard.
Do you think "Logan's Run: The Series" has a bigger market? Let's wait and see the overall quality.

Timeless continues to deliver the obscure Universal titles (albeit with 16mm prints) with a complete series release of "Riverboat" due in May.

I have it on good authority from Laura Leff, president of The International Jack Benny Fan Club that a fully licensed set of dvd's'of THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM (1950-1965) is imminent.

Do you mean a set of all 250+ episodes? Or a sampling of episodes not in public domain? This is exciting news either way, but a full set would be historic.

I have a hunch it will be the filmed eps, not the kinescopes. As to season sets or completeness, I have no clue. But I'll get them.

Based on the hit Oscar-nominated movie directed by John Carpenter, starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen! The alien (Robert Hays, Airplane!) returns to find and assist the child he fathered 14 years before on his visit to Earth. When he arrives, he takes on the identity of Paul Forrester, a prize-winning free-lance photographer with a rather wild reputation killed in a helicopter accident. He finds the child and his mother have been separated. Paul convinces Scott to help him to locate Jenny, his friend from his first visit to Earth. Unfortunately, their search is plagued by George Fox, a paranoid government agent who feels Paul and Scott are dangerous and wants to capture, examine, and probably kill them.

Since the beginning of the TV-on-DVD era, fans of short-lived science fiction shows have been vocal in wanting a release of Starman, the 1986 program spun off from the popular 1984 theatrical film. Now Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has at last scheduled a release of all 22 hour-long episodes, coming April 3rd on a 5-DVD set! But you won't find this title in stores: since retailers have grown resistant to on-shelf stocking of "retro" TV titles, Sony has decided to put this out as part of their manufacturing on demand (MOD) program.

This means you'll only be able to buy it online, through channels such as the Warner Archive and Amazon's CreateSpace. It's not available for pre-order yet, however, so there's no pricing or box art at this time. But look for a number of cool guest appearances in Starman - The Complete Series, including those of Ami Dolenz, Jason Bernard, Janet Leigh, Tim Russ, David Doyle, Timothy Stack, Jerry Hardin, and Erin Gray. Video is full screen, and audio is English mono...just as originally aired! Stay tuned for updates, just as soon as they're available.

A bump for this - from the latest Intl JB fan club newsletter:

"I mentioned this in an E-mail broadcast, but it bears repeating. I am often asked if there will be a commercial DVD release of Jack Benny programs, especially those not currently available.

Probably the material that is currently running here locally.

I've got some VHS Benny stuff I taped when he was doing TV specials. Got the "Si, Cy, Sue" routine with Mel Blanc.

What do you think of Warner Bros. as a Studio releasing vintage series on DVD?
Any examples to examine in the past.

Well, this is a positive sign. At long last, Maverick. Does not appear to be a Warner Archive release?

And STILL with the insane prices! Sigh. I see no reason why they can't
place all 8 discs in a ONE box set, instead of these half-season sets.
But then, they'd still charge $80.00 for the whole set. And this is only the first
season, so you'll wind up paying $160.00 for TARZAN.

Aside from that I'm glad to see it's finally out. big grin

I honestly don't find the price insane if its something I really want, since I paid even more for "The FBI." I recognize the model they're operating under and I think its just good that this material is finally being rolled out when for years Warner was the worst studio in tapping into its TV holdings.

Interestingly, they still haven't released on DVD the MGM 1959 remake of "Tarzan The Ape Man" alone among all Tarzan material they control.
