Hot on the heels of Maestro Morricone (although a few years younger) I believe Tuesday is MusicMad's birthday.

It's a real treat for me to have him contributing to the board; an authoritative and longtime fan of John Barry, I've learnt a huge amount from him in private correspondence.

And modest, as well - I doubt he'll be expecting this, and I suppose it's a way of me saying thanks. I'll raise one to you tomorrow (a drink, that is, not an invoice wink ) and I hope to share some haddock'n'chips before too many more months are out.

I don't know what to say ...

...other than I'm shocked (I presume you must have read another post where I mentioned the date) to find myself on the subject line;

and humbled by your kind words.

As they say, it takes two to tango and without turning this post into a torrent of gushing sentiments you will know how grateful I am to you for certain comments of advice, etc. ...

... and for making the first move.

And before anyone asks: no, there's nothing sexual here ... just good old music appreciation!

Mitch ... just turning 50 (and yes, to those others who are somewhat younger, that is old!)

...for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fe-he-lowww! And so say all of us!

Best wishes

Urs

Anyone who is "Mad" about "Music" deserves a great birthday. Hope you received LOTS of soundtracks and had a great celebration.

Ditto that!

And if I may be so bold; anyone who's a fan of John Barry is a friend of minesmile

Have a great one.

You are all so kind ... thank you.

However - my decision - I disconnected all of my hi-fi / AV equipment yesterday (partly to clean behind, partly to set-up a new DVDr) and as yet have not put everything back.

So I'm presently without my lovely music but hopefully later today will have everything working again.

You may have a point - the best-selling CD in the Taliban charts is a JB compilation, featuring a number of remixes:

Love Among the Ruins
Boom
Chased Out of Africa
Beat Girls
World Domination...And How To Get It

Look! It's your birthday AGAIN! Seems to come around every year...

It's pretty late, and to be honest I only logged in to escape the Geordie midgets and their execrable jungle programme, but none the less I hope you had a great birthday with cake and music ringing in your ears. That's the music ringing in your ears, of course, not the cake...

Salut!

Cheers, Young Man, I'm appreciative of your kind words.

Not too much music today but certainly to come.

More CDs added to my collection (today: Gone With the Wind - Charles Gerhardt, The Music of Ron Goodwin - Ruman Gumba & Anatomy of a Murder - Duke Ellington ...)

... all happily received.

I can't believe I've been on this forum 4+ years ... just where did the time go?

My thanks to you all for your good wishes (hides in embarrassment).

I know I'm not the oldest member - and I'm certainly not the wisest (or prettiest!) member - of this forum, but these years do keep passing ... ever more quickly, it seems.

And I think back and ask: how can it be, nearly 40 years of collecting film music ... and I still love it with a passion. Indeed, recent talk re: releases of Geoff Love's albums gives me hope that there'll be a proper release of his Big Western/War Movie Themes's albums ... the ones that started it all off for me.

And another I'd like Vocalion to release: Ron Goodwin's Excitement (so as to replace the 4 crackly tracks I have) was one of my first dozen ...

My tastes have widened but film music remains the central feature. smile

Kicking myself for missing this by a good fortnight!

And for exchanging emails with you around that time without the penny dropping. What a terrible friend I am! Consider this an abject and public apology!

Hope you had a good one, full of Barry-like delights and family waiting hand-and-foot on you, as you deserve!

Chris
