hoping there's a Space:1999 expert who can identify if this Season One cue exists, possibly as part of Barry Gray's library. It's not on the cds, and I tried the Season One Chappell library cues with the most likely names, but no luck. It's heard in more than one episode, but is prominent in "Dragon's Domain" whenever they visit the ship with the monster. It might seem like an ambient sound effect, but it's subtly musical and not emanating from anything, so I think it counts as a cue.

Well this is frustrating. I'm at work, where videos are blocked.

it's just a slideshow video (jpeg with MP3 audio) since you need something visual for youtube.
If you can download from hosting sites, here's the MP3 alone:

And the slideshow:

I know there's a Barry Gray website (http://www.barrygray.co.uk/BG/Home.html), but I'm not sure this is his work, and whether they'd know. I tried some Space 1999 sites, but havent gotten any responses yet.

Also blocked. I work in a secure facility. I won't be able to see this until Saturday night. Leave it up at youtube even if you get an answer so I can hear it for my own satisfaction, okay?

This weird and otherworldly cue is also tracked on "The Mission of the Darians" for the death booth scenes.

thanks for mentioning another episode. I checked the tracklist site again to see if it was included under that title, but wasnt. http://catacombs.space1999.net/main/pguide/up05.html

Are you sure this is a music cue? It rather sounds like a sound effect to me.

it's non-diegetic, as I explained above. In contrast to something like the "planet" background sound effect in Star Trek:TOS, this does not come from anywhere, and accents the horror of the situation. I think that its repetitive (probably looped) electronic nature suggests an effect, but it's part of the soundtrack.

Yes, I would say this electronic effect in the clip sounds definitely looped.

I think it's a cue by Barry Gray. It's in a similar vein to some of his other atmospheric electronic cues, but, in my opinion, quite a bit more menacing and intense. I've always found it to be a disturbing piece. Scared the daylights out of me when I was a child. Still unsettling today. Gray was brilliant with electronics. His talents in that field are underrated.

I think it works very well to instill dread or unease in the viewer.
I was going to email the barrygray.co.uk site if noone here turns up any leads.

Have you contacted Fanderson?

that's a good idea - I didnt know Fanderson had a forum.
I love this - the bluray has music-only tracks for all except two episodes - Dragons Domain, and Breakaway. They used Gerry Anderson commentary instead.
The Network dvd has a music-only track for the episode, but I've heard it's actually Music/Fx; and of course will be sped-up Pal.

it's definitely a synth loop of some kind (or the Martenot).

I think it was first used in Matter of Life and Death as stuff was all going wrong on the planet. It's not included in those cues either. I always figured it was created as background sound and not music. It might not have been done by Barry Gray at all.

the answer from Facebook : It's a Barry Gray track, originally used for the XL5 episode 'Invasion Earth' but really slowed down (they also slowed down one of Roger Roger's tracks for when they enter Gwent in The Infernal Machine) and with another organ track overlaid. You can hear it at about 3'10 on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMyQUGy2Wzs

thanks, Charles. I would never have guessed it was that cue. So the Space1999 version doesnt exist anywhere else but on the video?
Did they mention if it's on the FIREBALL/SUPERCAR cd or somewhere else?
