I appreciate he wrote the scores within a year or two of each other and 'Waterworld' was a rush job..

Some of the best scores in the world have been "rush jobs" (ALIENS, anyone?), and I guess this is no exception. JNH has written tons of great stuff in his career, but he's never been close to equalling this masterpiece, IMO. That he did it as a replacement score in a short amount of time, only makes it more impressive.

As a self-published author in the fiction genre, I can tell you writing with a short deadline and on fly is when the best stuff comes out. It's a pure adrenaline rush! You know you have little time and your blood starts flowing fast, you just create, you don't spend too much time overthinking because you don't have that luxury. You have to rely on your instincts and through that, the most passionate work comes about.

I need the 2-disc version.....

In one of those little pieces of synchronicity, I placed an order for this title this morning, prior to even seeing this thread. LLL has it back in stock and I had a cart of CDs to buy from MovieMusic.com. I missed out on the original and almost paid through the nose for it. At the last minute, sanity prevailed and a few years later LLL gave it a dust-off and a fresh coat of paint. Very stoked for this one.
