How can you lose your faith in Del Toro's films?
In recent years, del Toro has basically turned into DreamWorks' whore with his script doctoring work (though Kung Fu Panda 2 worked, Megamind certainly didn't and Rise of the Guardians was bound to be overpraised in the same way How to Train Your Dragon was, only without the talent that made Dragon work) and has promised a million things (At The Mountains of Madness, Pinocchio) that never got made. He's basically become a fatter, money hungry version of Robert Rodriguez (but at least Rodriguez is starting to fulfill his promises, with Sin City and Machete sequels opening later this year).
Wow.
And how is all that related with Del Toro ability to direct a movie?
Steven Spielberg has produced Falling Skies, Terranova, Transformers or Real Steel, and still is one of the finest directors in Hollywood.
Besides you are wrong. As I stated in my previous post, Del Toro invested a lot of time in The Hobbit. Probably he used more of his time in The Hobbit than in all those movies you speak about.

With Spielberg, being an executive producer only requires one to be on set for a few days and sign checks. With del Toro, he actually worked on scripts and did consulting work at DreamWorks (notice how he's credited not as a producer but as a consultant). I feel that working with Katzenberg (whose method is "forget the plot, throw stars, bad jokes and shiny things onto the screen and you have a blockbuster") has affected his ability and that's why we are now seeing him directing would could basically be summed up as "Godzilla meets Sucker Punch".
At IMDB Del Toro is credited as executive producer for all the movies you speak about. However he is not credited as writer.
Contrarily he is credited as writer for The Hobbit or Pacific Rim which in your own theory indicates in what projects he invested more time and dedication.
For me the trailer of Pacific Rim is not very original, however it doesn't mean that suddenly now Del Toro is the worst director around. Curiously he stated about this movie:
"This is my most un-modest film, this has everything. The scale is enormous and I'm just a big kid having fun."

I don't feel anything wrong with it.
I haven't listened to the music yet but with such^ endorsement I feel very assured that the music will be brilliant as usual, complete with:
(1) creative droning,
(2) "a-i-u-e-o" male chanting (since we've got Russian here),
(3) EMOTIONAL(TM) ostinato string,
(4) EPIC(TM) Inception-horn blast, and
(5) 50 taikos (Japan! must have taikos), but in complete synch so they sound like ONE.
Oh and the brilliant Djawadi might throw some wailing Arab woman into the mix, for the extra dose of originality and EMOTIONAL impact.
I can't wait to enjoy such creativity while having my Mountain Dew, McBurger and dorritos!
