Like Eileen, Joan was also a Batman henchmoll, and in both instances their beauty wasn't showcased to good effect like in "Burke's Law."

One can see that Nancy's character has a distinct preference for bikinis as her choice of attire.

I already intended to get this series as I like the combination of lush excessive stylish looks of 60s class combined with parallel world total unreality, like Batman, Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Honey West.

Now I have been presented with an additional reason.

That particular episode is the reason why the continued refusal of Fox to let VCI release S2 on DVD is irritating me considerably! (and necessitating the boot route in that case)

Nancy demonstrates a great flair for light comedy in the episode without being made the victim of abuse like in her "Bewitched" guest spots.

Several years ago, in this thread, my spotlight of Nancy Kovack's first guest appearance (in the has to be seen to be believed "Girl Girl" part that could only have come from Harlan Ellison's occasionally depraved mind) included this cap.

To my amusement someone has chosen to cap this same image as the basis for stiffing gullible people on e-bay that is a "photo" worthy of being framed and sold for some $52!

Perhaps the signature from Nancy is authentic, but it is a pathetic comment that screencaps that anyone can do themselves can then be marketed as something they're not in this fashion for such an outlandish price.

Hope must be given up for a legit DVD release of S2, so time to use the boot set again for a new update!

"Who Killed Merlin The Great" involves the death of a magician while peforming an underwater trick of being able to hold his breath inside a coffin for five hours. How was the magician shot while inside his coffin placed at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool?

The Good Captain has suspects to consider like the future center square, Paul Lynde, and fellow magician Nick Adams (who was just about to leave for Japan to do his two kaiju movies). And among the ladies we have, magician's assistant Jill St. John, whose name, "Pinky Likewise" raises some eyebrows from Captain Burke.

She shows off her ability to do the levitation trick rather well!

But she is less than thrilled with being the knife-thrower's target!

Jill is almost unique among 60s bombshells who could effortlessly move back and forth between big roles in films and top TV guest star gigs. She'd already done "The Lost World" and the Jerry Lewis "Who's Minding The Store" and then after this, would in addition to films like "The Liquidator" and "Tony Rome" also make her presence felt in the great "Big Valley" episode "Barbary Red".

And the "Batman" pilot where she got top billing over guest villain Frank Gorshin!

The peak role of her career of course, would come as Tiffany Case in "Diamonds Are Forever" where like in this "Burke's Law" episode, her name attracts some amusement from the lead.

Also in this episode, in her second go-round in the series, is Janet Blair, playing a ventriloquist with a possible motive.

Joan Huntington, later to appear in several WWW episodes, is the Captain's date for the teaser and tag. A doctor who knows how to make house calls!

Sergeant Ames (Eileen O'Neil) meanwhile, has a new hairdo for Season 2, the bouffant now having gone out of style. Detective Tilson seems to approve.

But the real reason for why this episode needed a spotlight at long last was the third series appearance of that lady with the face to die for, Nancy Kovack.

Since her two S1 appearances, Nancy had by this point gone blonde (an improvement for her IMO) and also graduated to a front of episode credit as the deceased's secretary "Athelscone Stone."

Nancy gets the plum role of being totally free from suspicion in this episode, and also ending up as the good Captain's main romantic interest.

GREAT thread. Love those 60's chicks!!!! Sleek and classy! Nancy Kovack was to die for!!! Absolutely gorgeous!

Nancy Kovack, of course went on to play Darrin's former girlfriend Sheila in three episodes of "Bewitched" (including the pilot), and went on to marry conductor Zubin Mehta.

Nice to see Nancy get all these encore images with the new replies. smile

Those who are fans of her work should also make sure they get her "Mannix" appearances which are among her best.

Just watched her Mannix S6 appearance. Weird seeing her credited as Nancy Mehta.

By that point she was really disengaging from acting in general and just doing a few occasional guest shots. "Mannix" was clearly a favorite of hers since she'd gotten the Emmy nomination for her S2 guest shot.

I managed to kill part of a turbulent flight to Minneapolis (I am now in the airport waiting my connection to Des Moines) by watching Nancy's great "Burke's Law" episode that has been encored many times here. Between the Mannix episodes and this one, plus her Trek episode and "Jason And The Argonauts" you see a woman of diverse talent who deserved better!

MeTV just started airing the Amos Burke Secret Agent season, and is four episodes in. I'm finding these episodes fun, but not up to the quality of Burke's Law. The first three episodes are definitely riffing from the Goldfinger playbook, particularly in "Operation Longshadow," and "Steam Heat."

So far, Antoinette Bower has made the best impression as a bad girl in "Longshadow," even sporting a gun she assembles from cosmetic items in her handbag, way before "Man With The Golden Gun."

Michele Carey made for some nice eye candy in the pilot as one of the good girls.

I remember watching AB:SA as a kid when it was run in syndication. The one thing that stuck in my head from the show was a woman being tossed from the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower in "Operation Longshadow."

Here's an interesting overview of the show;

That's interesting that the "Secret Agent" episodes are making the rounds, since they were never part of the syndication/rerun packages with "Burke's Law" in the past. I'd be interested in seeing those but only when we FINALLY see that much too long overdue DVD release of Season 2 (and I can upgrade the caps I made from the boot set for some of these earlier entries!)

If the Four Star produced "The Rogues" made it to DVD as well, there are also some guest shots that would be worth including in this thread too including the best guest shot I've ever seen from two time BL guest, Suzy Parker (in an episode where pre-Trek James Doohan is calling someone else "Mr. Scott"!)

MeTV was running The Rogues a few months back, before they started Burke's Law. Wish I'd TiVo'd some of those episodes. Hopefully MeTV will bring it back at some point. Many of the older B&W shows only seem to run early in the AM.

The episode "Steam Heat" has a great guest cast, with James Best, Jack Lambert, John Hoyt, and Nehemiah Persoff (in a wild-eyed, positively rabid performance). Madlyn Rhue was also in the episode in a small part, but I missed it.

The stand-out is Kipp Hamilton as Persoff's psychotic moll, Silkie, who arranges the violent death of Burke's undercover partner. Contrary to what the guy in the Amos Burke Secret Agent blog wrote, you get to see the normally unflappable Burke fly into a rage over the murder.

I did not realize Hamilton was the singer in War Of The Gargantuas who sings "The Words Get Stuck in My Throat," and then gets dropped to her death.

She was also in a good S1 "Man From UNCLE" episode "The Mad, Mad Tea Party Affair" (which also featured Danica D'Hondt from the S2 Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea episode "Escape To Venice" and an early appearance by Sharon Tate as a THRUSH henchlady)
