I made use of a great 50 % off deal at amazon Italy for the TNG blu-ray sets for seasons 3,4,5 and started going through the extras this weekend, I'd totally forgotten that there was this extra on the music included on the season 5 set! So I just finished watching it and it's well over an hour of Jeff Bond hosting a discussion with Jones, McCarthy and Chattaway. What's great about it is the in-depth nature of the discussion, Jeff Bond as we know is very knowledgable of Star Trek music and the composers themselves have fun reminiscing about those first shows they did, the meddling from producers, the favorite shows they scored. The way the TNG music progresses throughout the show's run is also addressed, with of course the change of guard seeing Jones leave and Chattaway come in. I do have to say I was getting slightly annoyed with how long Jeff Bond let Chattaway sit there before bringing him into the discussion, McCarthy you could tell felt bad for him and gave some assists to include him but Jeff was persistent in covering everything from the Jones/McCarthy era first. Just wanted to add that this is highly recommendable if you enjoy star trek music and for me as someone who watched TNG and never expected to get to listen to most of this music let alone hear these people discuss it and reflect on it, an excellent extra indeed! So thanks to Jeff & co for this well deserved spotlight on these great composers!
