For release in time for the world-tour by the Maestro of film-music, the Ecoutez le cinéma! collection presents: The Essential Ennio Morricone - Famous, rare or previously unreleased scores
2CD Album, 44 tracks, 2h30' of music

To celebrate his 85th birthday, Ennio Morricone is to undertake a world-tour including concerts in France, the USA, Russia, Germany and Turkey. On February 4th 2014 he will be appearing in Paris-Bercy for a one-off concert conducting a Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. This is the ideal opportunity for the Ecoutez le cinéma! collection to release an exceptional anthology devoted to a living legend in film-music: a double CD album freely conceived as a sentimental journey through fifty years in international films. The concept? To bring together soundtracks objectively considered as today's standards, but also some rarer scores and others which have never been released before. This new collection features the Maestro's unavoidable masterpieces for Sergio Leone, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, the two Once Upon a Time… movies (In America, In the West) or A Fistful of Dynamite; Giuliano Montaldo (Sacco & Vanzetti); Henri Verneuil (The Sicilian Clan); Georges Lautner (The Professional); Brian de Palma (The Untouchables) and Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso), together with some (very) original soundtracks which Morricone composed for Saturday-night movies: spaghetti westerns, the giallo genres and other erotica… The journey also covers several scores previously unavailable on CD (The Key) or never released anywhere, like The Demons of San Pietroburgo or the Italian television series Come un delfino, plus two cues from Orca, restored from the original master-tapes. And there's also a double-bonus: songs performed by Joan Baez, Sting, Gérard Depardieu, Zucchero and Dulce Pontes, and the golden timbres of some of the magical soloists who gave the Maestro's writing another dimension — the voice of soprano Edda Dell'Orso, the harmonica played by Franco de Gemini, and the whistling of Alessandro Alessandroni. In the end, these two and one half hours of Essential Ennio Morricone reveal every facet and idiom of a hyperactive genius inspired by all kinds of films. In the words of French director Francis Girod, "Morricone is the cinematographer's Verdi. His originality is a subtle dose of lyricism and irony. He's not only a great film-musician but a great musician. End of story."

Wow! Haven't got a Morricone compilation for a LONG time. Have to have this one. I wonder if they will follow some of this unreleased material with full CDs?

(...) plus two cues from Orca, restored from the original master-tapes.

Sounds promising ... fingers crossed for an expanded/complete/restored ORCA!

Well if they follow suit with their Maurice Jarre boxset......kinda.

Since that came out several full titles have been released, but
by other labels (Prancer-Intrada, Jennifer 8-LalaLand, Mackintosh
Man-Intrada). So I guess the hope is that the tapes are there, but
Univ. Fr is either working with other labels to see full releases through?

What I am asking for is Maurice Jarre's magnificent score to RESURRECTION. Long overdue.

I'm taking a wild guess that it is Morricone's music conducted by Luis Bacalov.

Maybe Morricone conducted the piece??

I should've looked closer, lots of usual suspects here, unlike the
Legrand/Delerue/Jarre FR sets.
Fine for newbies and I guess it's been awhile since an EM has hit the market.

I'll buy this in the hope that it contains the unreleased second cue from Orca.

Is there any indication of this in track listing?

I did say in the hope of. There is a track listed named Orca, above Intermezzo + Dialogue of the Memories from the same score.

Here's hoping that 'Orca' is the unreleased guitar and Edda Dell'Orso mix from said score?

My Morriconian friend Laurent Perret just wrote on the Morricone board that the original mastertapes for ORCA could not be located so the actual movie version of the main theme has not been included.
The good news is that they've used the LP masters for the three ORCA tracks with a much better sound quality than the poor Legend CD.

I suggest you read the whole thread for more information about this compilation:
