Here's another suggestion for a score to be released. I really like 'Lady Jane' both the film and the score but sadly it has never been released.

The music for LADY JANE is by Stephen Oliver, best known for the 40+ operas that he wrote. His work for film was minimal, most notable for composing the incidental music and lyrics for the Royal Shakespeare Company's eight-and-a-half hour long stage production of "The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby," a performance of which was later taped for television and video. Trevor Nunn co-directed the original stage presentation of "Nicholas Nickleby," and when he directed LADY JANE, he also hired Oliver to do the score. I haven't seen the film. Is it Oliver's music that we hear in this trailer?

The film's titles cite Harry Rabinowitz as the conductor. The music at the start has an Elizabethan 'lilt.' As far as I can remember, the music at the end of the trailer seems to fit the tragi-sympathetic love ambience for the two main characters. "The soul takes flight to the world that is invisible," are words Jane uses when she's holed up awaiting execution. The very nice theme just described fills that space and moment in time.

Helena Bonham-Carter was really young at the time she made the film. So too Cary Elwes. But the film acts as a kind of bridge because you've got so many high profile actors (such as the likes of Michael Hordern) of distinction accompanying them on that journey. A fine period drama.

Hi Bob,

Yes this is Oliver's music. The brass theme near the end of the clip features in the Main Title. I like it because it has a 'Tudor sound'. It would make a great CD.

I prepared an album master 3 years ago from the late Stephen Oliver's 2 track safety copies.... but have been waiting for publishers Sony Music to give the go ahead to the CD.... but they seem reluctant to even respond to latest emails, even with the backing of Stephen's brother for this CD!!! At this rate it might never get a release...

PS It is a most wonderful score with symphony orchestra, medieval ensemble and large choir

It's not so long that I watched this film again and loved the score.

It would be a worthy addition to my collection big grin

Hope that you are successful as I recall Lady Jane a fine film with a very good score.

Thanks for the info, James - let's hope you have more luck with Sony.

By the way, I've thought of another unrecorded score which I would like to see released. This is Victor Young's score to 'Blackbeard the Pirate'. The film was historical tripe but the score was good.

Perhaps you could shop the project to LaLaLand or Intrada, James. Both have regular dealings with Sony and might be more likely to get their calls returned. I know you've worked with Intrada on a couple of things (ie. getting them Ron Goodwin tapes) so maybe they'd be the place to start. You co-produce, they work out the licensing...
