The score didn't impress me but the film was a blast. MV Finally a good big budget action flick that isn't a reboot, remake, prequel or sequel. It's an adaptation of a japanse manga called All You Need Is Kill. I think it was just a novel, not a manga MV

Joan, since I always make a point of reading your posts, just wanted to chime in - what you said! Loved Beck's Buffy work (most expensive CD I ever bought was the promo released years before the official soundtrack score album). And Tuscan Sun is one of my very favorite listens from the last 10-15 years - just a beautiful score. (Even watching the film didn't sour me on the score - that's how good it is.)

Honestly I avoided posting anything in this thread when I listened to the score but now that it's been bumped to the top of the pile I might as well say something... I try not to be too negative about particular film scores on this forum; either I praise a score as something I love, like, or enjoy...or I just don't really mention it. In this case I have to say that Edge of Tomorrow is one of the most disappointing and dull scores I've heard in a very long time. I used to be a fan of Beck's work, although that enthusiasm has waned in recent years, and I thought that he could bring at least something to EoT. I honestly barely enjoyed one track on the whole album, none of it was memorable, and I have no interest in hearing it again. I rarely feel that strongly about a film score -- especially contemporary film scores featuring electronics and edge, suspense and action -- but this one was just lifeless to me. Maybe I was unfairly hoping for some of the creativity and energy that Beck brought to previous actioners The Sentinel, Elektra, Seeker: Dark is Rising, or R.E.D and had some unfair high hopes going in. I experienced a similar situation with Beck's Runner Runner score recently also...I thought the composer could bring a unique Latin flavor, some suspenseful energy and perhaps a playful propulsion to that score but it too was just monstrously D.O.A. and even someone like me couldn't find redemption in even the more ambient/textural tracks -- that says a lot, because I can get a lot of enjoyment and mileage out of ambient/textural tracks of orchestral or synthetic variety that most people write off as boring or filler. Comedy scores and animation scores are not usually my thing and Beck's forays into action/sci-fi/suspense have floundered lately, so I am not sure I'll be following his career as closely as I once did.
