VOTE YOUR FAVORITE FILM MUSIC AND COMPOSERS OF 2013!

Milano, February 2014 – ColonneSonore.net proudly announces the nominees for the Second Edition of ColonneSonore.net Awards, a prize aimed to recognize the best film and television scores released last year both in Italy and the rest of the world.

Following the great success of the First Edition which recognized Italian composers Paolo Vivaldi and Andrea Farri and, among the foreigners, John Williams and Howard Shore (http://www.colonnesonore.net/news/premi-e-concorsi/2456-winners-of-colonnesonorenet-awards-2012.html), ColonneSonore.net gives to its readers and followers the chance to vote for their own favorite film and television scores of 2013 through a public poll on ColonneSonore.net website.

As in last year's competition, the Award is structured in 6 categories: Best Music for an Italian Film, Best Italian Composer of the Year, Best Music for an Italian Television Series (a.k.a. “Fiction”), Best Original Song for an Italian Film, Best Music for a Foreign Film, Best Foreign Composer of the Year.

All the works produced and released in Italy during the year 2013 have been taken into consideration (for foreign films, the release in country of origin was considered). ColonneSonore.net's staff editors selected the candidates and, after an internal voting ballot, they picked 12 nominations for both “Best Music for an Italian Film” and “Best Music for a Foreign Film”, 8 nominations for “Best Music for Italian Television Series”, 3 nominations for “Best Original Song for an Italian Film” and 6 nominees for both “Best Italian Composer of the Year” e “Best Foreign Composer of the Year”.

ColonneSonore.net's first aim is to have a selection of candidates that truly express the variety and eclectism of the scores produced for film and television during the year 2013. For Italian composers, again we find true film maestros like Ennio Morricone (nominated for Giuseppe Tornatore's The Best Offer), Pino Donaggio (Brian De Palma's Passion) and Franco Piersanti (Anni felici), as well as some of the most in-demand names of our industry such as Andrea Guerra (Che strano chiamarsi Federico!), Pivio & Aldo De Scalzi (Razzabastarda), Pasquale Catalano (Amiche da morire), Paolo Vivaldi (Adriano Olivetti: La forza di un sogno) and Umberto Scipione (Il principe abusivo). There are also interesting new names such as Lele Marchitelli (Paolo Sorrentino's The Great Beauty), Mauro Pagani (Educazione Siberiana), Emanuele Bossi, the duo Marco Biscarini & Daniele Furlati (Un giorno devi andare), Gabriele Roberto (Viaggio sola), Rita Marcotulli (Una piccola impresa meridionale) and the Turin-based indie band Gatto Ciliegia contro il Grande Freddo (La scoperta dell'alba).

Among the foreign composers, past winners John Williams (The Book Thief) and Howard Shore (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) receive their second ColonneSonore.net Award nomination, as well as fast-rising Spanish talents Roque Baños (Evil Dead) and Fernando Velazquez (Mama), while Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski receives two nominations this year for Romeo & Juliet and Escape from Tomorrow. Up-and-coming film composer Steven Price has been nominated for his groundbreaking score for the sci-fi blockbuster Gravity.

Everyone can vote their own favorite scores and composers among the nominees from now until Sunday, March 2, 2014. On that day, voting will be closed and winners will be announced shortly afterward.

We hope to see again numerous voters and participants. ColonneSonore.net Award is rapidly becoming Italy's most important recognition for film & tv music. And remember, dear followers, that YOU will decide who will be the winner!

ColonneSonore.net Award is a property of ColonneSonore.net. The staff writers/editors are Massimo Privitera, Maurizio Caschetto, Alessio Coatto, Giuliano Tomassacci, Pietro Rustichelli, Luca Villari and Roberto Pugliese.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WINNERS OF THE 2nd EDITION OF COLONNESONORE.NET AWARDS ANNOUNCED!

Ennio Morricone and John Williams elected Best Composers of the Year
Umberto Scipione and Carlo Siliotto win as Best Music of the Year

MILANO, MARCH 3, 2014 - Online voting for the Second Edition of ColonneSonore.net Awards, the prize of ColonneSonore.net voted by readers and followers of the website, closed yesterday and winners are now being announced. As it happened last year, the public poll was met with great enthusiasm both by our readers and film & tv professionals in the Italian industry, with more than 2,000 votes in all six categories.

Once again, the variety of choices is the most striking aspect that emerged from this year's online voting, thanks to a selection of winners that includes all-time great maestros, highly acclaimed composers and up-and-coming new talents.

Ennio Morricone was awarded as “Best Italian Composer of the Year”, mainly thanks to his great score to Giuseppe Tornatore's The Best Offer, but also for his high-quality writing for several television series and his intense concert touring around the world.

American Maestro John Williams was elected “Best Foreign Composer of the Year”. The highly emotional score for the film The Book Thief struck a deep chord in the audience. Williams won 2 awards last year and this is his third ColonneSonore.net Award.

In the category “Best Music for an Italian Film”, composer Umberto Scipione wins the award thanks to his charming score for the highly successful comedy Il principe abusivo (The Unauthorized Prince), starring popular Italian comedian Alessandro Siani (who also directed the picture).

In an unexpected twist, an Italian composer wins also in the “Best Music for a Foreign Film” category: Carlo Siliotto was awarded by our readers for his moving score to No se aceptan devoluciones (Instructions Not Included), the Mexican comedy drama directed by Eugenio Derbez, which is now the most successful Spanish-language film ever released in the United States.

Highly acclaimed scoring duo Pivio and Aldo De Scalzi wins in the category “Best Original Song for an Italian Film” with the song “La vita possibile” (performed by Francesco Renga), written for Alessandro Gassman's film Razzabastarda (Bastard Breed).

Emanuele Bossi was awarded in the category “Best Music for Italian Television Series” (a.k.a “Fiction”) for his scoring on the series Benvenuti a Tavola 2 – Nord vs. Sud, the popular tv series set in the world of Italian cuisine currently airing on Mediaset channels.

All winners will be honoured with a certified plaque. You can see the final results of the public poll at the following link: http://www.colonnesonore.net/sondaggi/

ColonneSonore.net staff members congratulate to all the winners and also to all the nominees of the Second Edition of ColonneSonore.net Awards. Thanks to all the people who voted and participated to our public poll, for making all of this possibile and for honoring the work of many great artists.
