Edgar Wright took to Twitter moments ago to reveal that Gravity composer Steve Price is set to score his upcoming Marvel Studios Phase Three launcher, Ant-Man.
"Huge congrats to @SteveBPrice for his Bafta Award for the 'Gravity' score," Wright says. "I guess I should drop the news that he is scoring 'Ant-Man'."
Set to begin production shortly in Georgia, Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.
Price is no stranger to working with Ant-Man's creative team. He scored the Wright-produced and Cornish written and directed Attack the Block as well as Wright's recent Cornetto Trilogy concluder The World's End.
Set to star Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas (with Evangeline Lilly rumored for a leading role) Ant-Man hits theaters July 17, 2015.
Huh. Interesting. I suppose I'll have to listen to some of his stuff and see what it sounds like. From what I've heard, the Gravity soundtrack works extremely well in the film but is too atmospheric for some people as a solo listening experience.
Untamed Aggression, you seem thrilled with this news. What scores by Price should I listen to to get familiar with his style?
EDIT: As a side note, I guess all we need is official confirmation that Brian Tyler is scoring Avengers: Age of Ultron and we'll know all of the Phase 2 composers and the first Phase 3 composer. I've heard rumors and seen some hints and indications that Tyler was scoring it, but there's no official announcement yet.

I haven't heard GRAVITY away from the film yet, but I loved ATTACK THE BLOCK right out of the gate and THE WORLD'S END took a couple of listens to truly appreciate.
I'm willing to bet John Carpenter is an influence. There's a cue near the end of GRAVITY that sounds EXACTLY like the ending of "Over the Wall" from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
Good for Price, though I kind of wish David Arnold got the job. Three reasons:
a) He wrote (personal opinion) the best score ever featured in a Wright movie (HOT FUZZ) b) Imagine what he could do on a comic book movie c) Really, he could use the work (again, personal opinion)

Haven't heard Price's Attack The Block, but quite like his World's End score, especially Price's eight-minute cue, "Cosmic Intervention."
With Wright having left Ant-Man, I heard also that Steven Price was no longer on board. Anyone else know any details?
Did you hear that it did you just hear people speculating about that?
The new director's films aren't exactly known for their scores -- he's worked with Brion, Beck, Shaiman, a few others, but I don't think any of his films' scores have been knockouts.

And yet Peyton Reed is a big fan of film scores. Aside from "Down With Love," his films simply haven't leant themselves to big scores. We'll see about this one.

A Marc Shaiman comic book score would probably never happen, but sweet God, is it fun to dream about.
I imagine this will be absolutely Marvel´s choice. Although the script will go through some changes, there just is not enough time for big ones since the production date is set, the major set pieces are set, the actors are cast. Peyton Reed had to agree to a pretty fixed situation. Which is why so many directors said no.
Doesn´t mean this film will turn out bad. In fact, Marvel has always had a pretty firm hand guiding their movies. But as to the choice of a composer, Marvel will probably go to their favorite one.
And let me say it again: I love Brian Tyler´s work for them.
