Seeing as Nic Raine/City of Prague Phil have done a more-than-acceptable re-recording of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, how about a re-record of this 1980 TV miniseries gem. It's got excitement and romance, with Maurice really on his game, theme-wise.

Or, how about an expansion of the entire TV score by an enterprising label?

Lots of TV miniseries expansions or recordings are possible from great composers like Alex North (RICH MAN, POOR MAN) and Henry Mancini (THE THORN BIRDS).

This is the kind of product Varese has done successfully in the past. Surely there is vaulted gold in the miniseries soundtrack line. Varese issued two volumes of Conti's NORTH AND SOUTH.

And, hey, that Raine/Prague Phil edition of QB VII rocked, didn't it?

I'd be somewhat surprised if the original tacks didn't survive for this. Intrada didn't do it complete before because the studio wasn't open for score releases at the time and they could only license the album tracks. I think now it could happen. I'd rather get a rerecording of Jarre's Jesus of Nazareth which really does appear to be lost.

About SHOGUN I think anytime it will appear in a complete form, I know that the tapes are available and according Yavar Moradi said very well when Shogun was released for the first time Paramount wasn't opened to release it complete.

About JESUS OF NAZARETH I know too that the complete score exist and in good condition, but until I know the owners asked much money to clear it, let's wait and see if anyone buy it soon to release.

I believe that a certain label has rights to SHOGUN and will at sometime issue the whole thing... as to JESUS, the tapes of all the sessions have gone "missing" .. only the album session tapes exist....but the owners, ITC, are not interested in having any label try and find them in the various storage units that exist. I have been trying for 15 years, but ITC won't even respond any-more to any contact re JESUS.

I´d love the whole SHOGUN! I actually watched the blu-ray release a few days ago and thought: what a lovely score.

Coincidentally I listened to the terriffic TAI-PAN today and was quite shocked that I didn`t have SHOGUN. I have no idea why I didn`t buy the Intrada CD when it still was available frown
I`d buy a complete release immediately.

A pity. It was one of Jarre's significant achievements in film scoring.

Just got word the miniseries will be released on Blu-Ray on July 22.

Any of our favorite labels planning a complete re-release of the score?

I missed out on Intrada's re-release, but saw a copy at Amoeba in Hollywood today for a cool one-hundred bucks.

This is one of the few scores I'd consider paying that much for. And just for that stellar Main Title.

Am I crazy to consider this, or is it just a matter of time before a chronological and complete issue?

I´d hope for an expansion or a re-recording.

But is a label right now working on that?

From my experience, the best way to find out is to buy the original release on the secondary market for a ridiculous price. A few days or weeks later, the re-release will be announced ;-)

Yes, one-hundred dollars of agony cannot be afforded at this time. Wish I knew which label that James Fitzpatrick referred to as having the rights that I should pester for a complete re-release.

This is such a great thread especially as it highlights the possibilities of a forthcoming complete release of 'Shogun' from a label and secondly a remote possibility that James may taken on recording 'Jesus of Nazareth'.

'Jesus of Nazareth' is such a fine score and deserves a complete re-recording release especially having heard Tadlow's concert suite on its 'Lawrence of Arabia' recording 2nd disc.

Jarre's score sounds so splendid in stereo on the blu-ray release, the tapes must be in great shape for a CD release, right?

They're in amazing shape. Nothing like the pinched, mid-rangey sound of that old LP master.
