And it turns out he considered Shenandoah his favorite. "INT: Do you have a favorite movie that you worked on, dad? AM: Yes, I do, but… I have, I probably, my favorite movie I think is SHENANDOAH. [INT: Why?] Just the whole movie itself. I’ve got another favorite movie, FOOL'S PARADE. I have two or three favorite movies, not just one. Another one is THE WILD GEESE, and that’s a whole different genre, that’s a whole different thing, one that’s a big action, war movie. The other is a mystery movie, FOOL'S PARADE.] SHENANDOAH is my favorite movie because, number one the subject matter, number two a terrific script, and equally number three, I had a great cast. And it all added up to a, I thought a really, really good, I was very proud of that movie. I always thought that Jimmy Stewart should’ve been nominated for an Academy Award. [INT: Was it fun to make that movie?] It was fun to make it. All the young people. It’s about a father and his son. And a daughter. [INT: It’s one of my favorite movies too, dad. What was your least favorite movie?] Oh boy, oh boy. You know what, I’m not gonna even tell you what… I haven’t got, I’m not gonna tell you what that one is. I don’t wanna hurt anybody’s feelings. [INT: Okay, fair enough.]" Greg Espinoza

Again, and again, thanks. And I'm gratified to know that you read FOOLS' PARADE. I read it when it was first published, obviously before the movie was made, and on the first page, as soon as Mattie Appleyard opened his mouth and spoke, I said to myself: "Jimmy Stewart!" You can imagine how happy I was when I learned about the movie. Sometimes Hollywood gets the right man for the job... I have a VHS copy I got off of cable many years ago, and it's encouraging to read about those other more recent broadcasts. (As you know, unfortunately, the existence of a good video edition is no guarantee that a good, projectable print is readily available.) I should get on the band wagon and follow your lead in lobbying Warner Archive. Did you contact them through their website?

I posted a request on the Warner Archive site, two threads on the Home Theater Forum, and I googled the e-mail for Sony Home Entertainment, home video dept. Sent an e-mail tonight. consumer@SPHECustomerSupport.sony.com This is what I sent them; "I'm hoping this question can be directed to your Sony Collector's Choice made-on-demand DVD division? I just want to put in a request for a title for made-on-demand DVD? It's a 1970 Columbia film called Fool's Parade, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, stars James Stewart, George Kennedy, and Kurt Russell. http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/75305/Fools-Parade/full-synopsis.html Thanks. I'm hoping this can be passed along." Well, hopefully the message will get to the right person. Greg Espinoza

I would love to see 'Fool's Parade' again. It's an unusual, oddly compelling work as I recall when I viewed it upon being released theatrically and haven't seen it since. Of course when I saw the name Davis Grubb in the credits as having written the novel, I thought it would be something with strong characters, mysterious and unpredictable. It didn't disappoint. I can still vividly recall its powerful finale'. It's on the C.C.'s Pinterest Board for those of us who want this on DVD NOW! A stand out directorial effort from Mr. McLaglen. R.I.P.
