Just been channel surfin and happened upon Gary Busey winning Big Brother. Not sure what shocked me most. That Busey was IN Big Brother or that people still watched that shit! Surreal.

I certainly don't (watch it, that is) but you can't help being exposed to it through inadvertent means like overhearing less discerning co-workers or the home page of MSN. I mixed up Gary Busey with Jake Busey. I couldn't believe the guy from Contact or Starship Troopers was 70!
From "Don't Throw The Bums Out" in today's New York Times
The turn-of-the-century muckraker Lincoln Steffens brilliantly mocked craven politicians who simpered, “Blame us, blame anybody, but praise the people.”
It was just too easy for citizens to groan about a few scapegoats in Washington; Steffens asked readers to consider whether sometimes “the misgovernment of the American people is misgovernment by the American people.”
I think the "Big Brother" audience may closely correlate to the most egregious mis-governors.
