Since I will be home on Halloween I wanted a couple of good films to see. I just got the Blu ray of Criterion's 'THE INNOCENTS' in yesterdays post, so that's one film to set aside. The other I'm thinking of is one I've heard of, but never seen: 'THE CHANGELING' from 1980 with George C. Scott. I realize I could view the trailer on youtube, but the reviews at Netflix are, for the most part, very strong for this film. So, have YOU seen this film?

Yes, yes, and YES! To this day, THE CHANGELING remains the creepiest movie I have ever seen, guaranteed to produce chills no matter how many times I've seen it. The seance scene will have you squirming in your seat.

That's 3 strong recommendations. I'm getting this film now before Halloween. The mention of a seance makes this sound just too tempting for me. THANKS GENTS!

ABSOLUTELY ! That seance scene freaks me out everytime. The entire movie is unsettling. An excellent haunted house / ghost story movie.

The editing in that scene is masterful.

Here's a review excerpt:¸

'This is an old fashioned film that relies on a developed main character (Scott rules), intelligence, emotion and subtlety to reel you in. No token teens, no excessive gore, no cheap scares…this is the real thing.'

And that in itself is reason enough to view it.

Both of my favorite horror films star George C. Scott. THE CHANGELING and EXORCIST 3.

I viewed the film last night, Netflix said it was 'pan and scan', but as usual they were wrong as it was a nice widescreen film. This film is right up there alongside 'The Haunting', at least for me. No blood and gore, instead the filmmakers used terrific sounds and sound effects, leaving a great deal to our own imaginations - I appreciated that. George C. Scott and his then wife, Trish VanDerveer give very convincing performances. And I've got to admit that I was truly frightened during 'The Seance' episode. So much so that I had to call my dog to come sit on the couch with me! (but you didn't hear that from me.) The seance was truly spooky and well done. Actress Madeline Sherwood was seated at that table with the others during the scene and I kept my eyes on her. The reason was I think her 'body language'. She was so pushed back away from the table and pushing herself back in her chair so much I thought it would tip backward. She had no lines in this scene, yet her acting conveyed her great fear of what was occurring, that I felt I was in that darkened room myself! Superb music score as well, I don't know who did the music but it is so much better and better-suited for this type film than Huntley Searle's score to 'The Haunting'.
