Try to name just one.

Mine is without a doubt:

LINCOLN by John Williams

I simply love the Maestro's music for the film. Superbly Powerful and Beautifully Heartbreaking!

Wonderful in the film itself and away from the film, I find it a richly satisfying listen in every way.

His "With Malice Towards None" Theme made me cry on initial hearing and does so every time I hear it now. "Freedom's Call" is probably my favorite Cue/Track.

5 years before that, I would choose Danny Elfman's MILK and John Williams' WAR HORSE.

Please share yours. Thanks.

Yes, "Lincoln" by John Williams (2012), and it sounds better with each spin of the disc if I'm not mistaken.

Kind of sad now that I think about it, but nothing just really sticks out to me. I would probably have to go with JNH and THE LAST AIRBENDER.

TRON: Legacy.

But I go back and forth so often between that and How to Train Your Dragon as my favorite from 2010 that it may as well be either one.

Yes, I think it would have to be TRON: LEGACY for me too.

My #1 is definitely "Escape From Tomorrow" (Abel Korzeniowski) (I'm sure I've listened to The Grand Finale 100 times) ... too bad the movie itself was pretty awful.

other strong contenders for the #1 spot:

Super 8 (Michael Giacchino)
War Horse (John Williams)
Young & Beautiful (Philippe Rombi) (short, but every second of it is amazing)
A Single Man (Abel Korzeniowski)
Patrick (Pino Donaggio)
The Informant! (Marvin Hamlisch)

Some other scores from 2009 to present that I liked or loved:

In the House (Philippe Rombi)
Potiche (Philippe Rombi)
**everything by Philippe Rombi**
The Words (Marcelo Zarvos)
Passion (Pino Donaggio) (in the movie this is amazing)
The French Minister (Philippe Sarde)
**every new Philippe Sarde score**
Tetro (Osvaldo Golijov)
The Artist (Ludovic Bource) (mostly for the Main Title)
Venus in Fur (Alexandre Desplat)
Hugo (Howard Shore)
Anna Karenina (Dario Marianelli)
Epic (Danny Elfman)
**every new Gabriel Yared score**
**every new Ennio Morricone score**

Not a paltry bunch.

Yep, Tron Legacy for me too. Still waiting for a edition containing all the tracks in a single place (Intrada, maybe?)

The Amazing Spider-Man by James Horner. Great score and great to have a Horner superhero theme!
....very closely followed by War Horse and The Impossible.

This question makes me realized how disconnected I have become from contemporary movie music. I just don't "notice" scores anything like I used to.

Shame on me.

In fact, it's interesting to note that my purchases from recent years' movies have tended to be things like "Man of Steel" and "The Dark Knight Rises": all ostensibly "styles" of film music I detest except that certain examples like these do stand out a bit.

"Skyfall" is a recent score I still have a bit of a love / hate relationship with.

Interesting question.

It's a toss up between Star Trek and Grand Hotel Budapest. Let's say Giacchino on disc and Desplat in the film.

SHANE. The film may be 60+ years old, but the complete score came out within the last 5 years. Thanks to Paramount and Lalaland.

Didn't we have a thread recently for your favourite score in the last 10 years? My answer is the same for both threads, Morricone's 'BAARIA' released in 2009 (kind of just about qualifies for this one). I also liked 'Tintin' and 'Lincoln', was very disappointed in 'War Horse'. And I liked Elfman's 'Alice In Wonderland'. Can't think of any others I've even bought.

Actually that thread was also for your favorite movie score from the last 5 years because I remember being confused as to why people were citing scores from 2009. wink

Looking back at a thread which covered a similar topic (see: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=105938&forumID=1&archive=0) I posted, approx. 6 weeks ago, my list of acquisitions of scores for films released in the last five years.

I think my choice of favourite remains:
- Matka Edeniin (A Journey to Eden) Gaigne (2011) ... easily the best of the bunch, so far

Not that I've seen the film.

I have now watched the remake of True Grit (another waste of time ... the original, though not great, is far superior, IMHO) but I'm afraid this has not helped me appreciate Carter Burwell's efforts.

Mitch
