"And now for the music"
---------------------------------
I like Lockington but it sounded like he was asked to pander (dumb down?) to the modern sound on this one.
There were a few moments when his true music shone through the percussion, but overall this was a let-down compared to his previous stuff.

I, too, rather impatiently await a return to his JOURNEY 2 sound.

Really? From the little I heard, it sounded very old-fashioned, or at least from something out of the 90s. Big, bold and symphonic, even with themes. But I haven't heard the album.

It is a big symphonic score, yep. Even with some elements of modern day by the numbers stuff ( percussion, percussion and the churning strings ) it IS a big action packed score, 90's is a good reference. It isn't the Journey /Williams sound, but aggressive and JNH styled. The more I listen the more I like it. Pretty exhausting over the album length, but a very enjoyable ride

A friend of mine received the cd and he was (as me now) very disappointed with the artwork, I think is one of the worst I ever seen... just take a look at the back cover. I know has nothing to do with the music itself but just wanted to share my opinion on this frown

Are the track titles and tech credits inside the booklet?

Yes they're included, and includes one extra track that seems to be a song (I assume this since the art reads "various artists"):

Track 24. California Dreamin' (3:36)

but no extra information on it, not even who performs it.

EDIT: just noted on iTunes and amazon that indeed is a song performed by Sia, but in the art is not listed anywhere.

A truly wonderful action score.

I've got to agree, I've listened to the album, or selected tracks, daily since getting the MP3 from Amazon. Big and propulsive, a really dynamite score. And it gets a good mix in the film too, which was a surprise given the loud constant carnage onscreen razz

The movie itself was entertaining enough, kind of a lower rung disaster spectacle. But watching the movie made me miss Poseidon Adventure or Towering Inferno, where you have maybe one or two huge action set pieces, the rest focusing on suspense around the efforts to escape. Here, it was just falling down or blowing up endlessly. The effects are impressive, but it was just one crumbly scene after another.

And WHAT THE HELL is up with that CD artwork? That is just insultingly lazy work. Granted the music is the thing and I've ordered a number of Amazon on demand CD's and they've looked fine. Those pictures above however, show that they just didn't give a shit. I don't feel so bad now for getting the MP3 over the CD.

But hell yeah, the music is great.

Yes, with notes by the composer and the director and artwork.
