Oh those were the days when we got these wonderful scores, double or sometimes
triple score releases from Golden Age. FSM was the first label which introduced Rózsas music to me. I bought Valley Of The Kings/Men Of the Fighting lady, and after that i had to have every FSM Rózsa cd there was available. The high quality of the liner notes, so specific and accurate, also made impression to me. They even smelled good. smile

Think the world without any of those releases, from many different composers, releases which still could be deteriorating in some dusty vaults- that is, Intrada and Kritzerland and many others have also done marvellous job restorating many many scores, but one is gone- FSM.

I truly- deeply miss that label. And i fully understand Mr. Kendall at the same time for ending it, so don´t take this as complaining. But the passion towards film music which came across from
those releases, that was something i loved. Fortunately there´s still many scores available which
i don´t own, and i´ve been picking them up from time to time.... It´s always an occasion when
opening a "new" FSM-cd. But some day it will end.

Maybe, just maybe, someday we´ll see a comeback by FSM, who knows.... One can dream.

Thanks FSM!

I agree with every word you wrote, Mister L.

Loved that company and its releases....

Yup, esp. the first five years of this century. Every month there was a classic release (or two), stuff you could only dream of before. If, like me, you like 50's-70's soundtracks, then I think the easy stuff's been done. I don't think Lukas is in any rush to re-start the label, & anyway, he's more than done his bit.

I miss them too. Several reasons, of course, but the primary one is that they focussed on previously unreleased John Williams scores from the 60s onwards. Since they disbanded, no label has followed this particular path. 99% have been expansions of existing material, which everyone knows is not my cup of tea.

I'm still clinging on to the hope that Intrada or Varese will follow where FSM left off in terms of getting the remaining Williams scores out there -- at least doing the required research through their established channels to see whether or not there is any material remaining that can be released.

What's stopping you from buying them?

confused

Was that question directed to me or the topic starter? If me, I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Me too... so glad they got the complete Kong out before they folded their tents.

Ah, yes.

Along with "King Kong" (1976, complete), some other long-wanted prizes of mine were "THX 1138", "The Towering Inferno", "Heavy Metal" (the score), "The Omega Man", "Logan's Run", "Captain Nemo and the Underwater City" and "Gremlins" (complete), all given to us by the great FSM.

And how could anyone not mention the Blue Box?

Always looked forward to their releases. Lukas certainly gave us some first time classic gems which I don't think will get rereleased again. Great label!

What I really miss about the FSM label is the steady releases of MGM scores from the Turner/Warner archives. There isn't all that much left there that suits my tastes, mainly remaining Schifrin and assorted TV scores, but I really want them nonetheless.

Other than that, Intrada and Kritzerland have been doing a damn good job with Silver and Golden Age albums.

Miss them too. Great stuff.

Biggest what if was on Wild Wild Wedt TOS where cbs or Viacom or some such company said no. But at least FSM tried.

I remember when FSM released STAGECOACH. It was "wow", I had to have that. At that time, releases of old Goldsmith scores were far and in between. Most soundtracks available to the collector were tie-in releases of current movies. Little did I know at that time that this would be the start of a Label that would continue to unearth filmmusical treasures, including grails like LOGAN'S RUN and THE OMEGA MAN for years to come. It was one hell of a cool ride all these years.

Yes, I miss them too for the same reason.
I doubt any label now would like to release Daddy-O, or The Secret Ways, Because they're Young etc..

I remember ordering my first ever FSM CD from Silva Screen Mail Order back when it was released, John Barry's 'Deadfall'. I didn't know what FSM was at the time, but I'm glad for a lot of their releases since.

They put out many grails. (and thankfully didn't do unnecessary cross-fades)
