Now it is 2016, almost four years after Barbarian complete release and still there is nothing about original Destroyer... I have all new recordings (which I LOVE) and all others releases of original Basil recordings... And still there is not complete OST from Destroyer... So question is - why Intrada waiting so long with this ? I know that original Rome performance and recording have many issues, but it is still Poledouris recording so I will buy Destroyer from Intrada with a heart beat... But im hope this time Intrada will not repeat some wrong (in my opinion of course) "artistic" decision like in Barbarian release, which has some problems and very curious editing decisions etc. And question is - what about original Sword and Sorcery ?

This is just speculation, but I have long thought that Intrada might painstakingly work to piece together a "better performance" from the original flawed recording sessions, ie. use modern technology to splice together the less flawed parts, much as Michael Mattesino did for Superman IV. We'd end up with different takes from those used in the film at times, but I for one would prefer that if it ends up in a "better performed" edition of the original recording. Yavar

Yavar That performance for that soundtrack is nothing short of AWFUL.. Basil HATED IT, he tried to get a clean take on the Main Title, as I recall after seven takes, he gave up and hoped the sound effects would cover it up. Now I'm sure INTRADA will do as good a job as possible, but there isn't a whole lot you can do when the orchestra just can't play together. We do have the recording from TADLOW which is much closer to want Basil wanted it to sound like. I'm sure INTRADA is trying to get the title cleared which isn't always a easy or fast process. Ford A. Yavar Keep in mind the performance issues Basil had were not so much related to mistakes in the playing as you might think. It's not like the horns kept playing the wrong notes or the violins weren't playing together. Rather he was unhappy with the intonation out of the clarinets, for example. I'm sure it drove him batty but heck if I would notice. Stuff many of us lay people would not notice but he as a composer would because he knew what he was listening for and expected. It's like when my daughter was practicing her Torah portion for her upcoming Bat Mitzvah yesterday. She kept repeating a section because she said it wasn't right. But hell if I could tell, it sounded fine to me.

Ah, I'd thought it was more a matter of the orchestra not being in sync at times, or flubbed brass notes and such. To some degree Michael showed he could fix that kind of stuff on Superman IV, an amazing musical restoration effort. I think there might be digital tools today that can fix things like intonation, but I'm not sure at what cost that might be achieved. So are you able to confirm what is delaying this title so many years, so Ford and I don't have to speculate? Also, in regards to the poster who wrote about "closing the book"...for me, the Conan book won't be closed until we get a nice remastered version of the Conan Sword and Sorcery Spectacular that Basil composed as well. For me, it's actually a greater, less compromised composition than Conan the Destroyer itself, and it was great to get a new recording of it included as an extra by Tadlow. But I'm hoping the old SuperTracks "not quite legal" promo from years back can be retired with Intrada including a remastered version of it as an extra with their Destroyer release. Probably just wishful thinking, that, but I thought I'd mention it! Yavar

Well, that's just what I've heard, but probably the same way that their release of Krull was not quite legal. They put out a lot of things labeled as promos and such years ago (another example is David Newman's Galaxy Quest), back before the studios started cracking down on things that weren't fully licensed. I'm hoping that Intrada licensing it for inclusion on their upcoming release of Destroyer is the reason it was left off the BSX release. Yavar

These concerts at Ubeda have opened the eyes of more than one composer, so I've seen. And I've gathered the limited editions over the passed two decades have shown some thigns I don't think they knew about the score community.

This title has been on my mind of late. It was mentioned some time ago and I would've thought we'd have it in our hands by now. Is there any recent information out there as to why it hasn't been released yet? In the meantime, I am very happy that we have the Tadlow edition to go to.
