I notice on the BSX website that they have just reissued their Blade Runner re-recording on CD. For anyone who missed out the first time around, I really recommend this - it gets as much play in my house as the 3-CD set. It's the same music as the previous release, just remastered with new cover art.

One of my favorite re-recordings ever.

Yeah, great re-recording but I am disappointed that this isn't an expanded release. I really hoped that the success the first edition had merited a second disc of the remainder of the soundtrack.

The youngsters round these parts have a term for this sort of thing- "EPIC FAIL!"

Still, maybe one day...

Epic fail ? How?

Just seems a first pressing sold out so a another pressing is offered. I know there's music from the film that didn't make it on this album, but, it every important cue is included.

A tremendously satisfying album.

This re-recording is indeed quite good.

I wonder if Ford and the guys have a 24 bit quality download ready for this? I'd buy that!

Normally, I dislike Re-Recordings but clearly a lot of effort went into replicating the Vangelis tracks for this release. A secondary disc of further music would be most welcome :-)

What's missing from the CD? I was under the impression this was the complete score as heard in the film.

No, it's only selections. The score in the film is nearly wall-to-wall. This is basically a re-performance of the Old World/Gongo boots that were floating around a few years ago.

The cover art is a lot better on this version. Why did I have to buy the first pressing?!? wink

I too would like an expansion. Not that these votes count.

Thanks. So roughly how much material was omitted from the BSX release, time-wise? Obviously it would have to spill over into a second disc (yes, I saw soop.broth's list in the link).

This echos my thoughts.

Rerecordings are a very mixed bag - sometimes they do right, but often not - but this one nailed it. I actually prefer it to any of the other releases of the original score and its one of the first albums that goes on my iPhone.

I'm not going to add it up... but it's a lot.

Wasn't this recorded by Jack Elliot's New American Orchestra years ago with orchestrations by Patrick Williams?

That album came out some months after the film was released after the soundtrack recording couldn't be released for whatever reasons.

It's a damn fine album, but it's still an Orchestral version of this electronic score done by some of Hollywood's best musicians.

Some of the tracks are pretty damned good.

Ford, can we expect a re-issue of The Thing as well? I've heard the world about that album and I'm looking forward to getting it and Blade Runner.

While I used to be a purist in such matters, going almost exclusively for original recordings, my thinking has changed quite a bit in the last few years.

It's great to see this has been reissued for fans of the film and score who didn't get it the first time. I'll echo what others have said: I would buy a second disc with the remainder of the score faster than you can say "Lo-faszt!"

After the two Conan re-recordings, Blade Runner, and The Thing, me too.

Indeed! QBVII, The Salamander, Hour of the Gun, The Alamo, Mysterious Island, Fahrenheit 451, Battle of Neretva... the list goes on.
