I've never been a great fan of the Jimmy Bond franchise, a flawed concept if truth were told, and flogged long past its retirement to the stud farm sell-by date (though I've most of the John Barry scores).
But here's a question: periodically (yawn) there's this hot debate that rises like a dose of malaria where everybody postulates who'll be the next singer of the title song.
So why has THIS lady never been touted or selected (or did she refuse?)... a consummate performer and writer, she's got the image and everything?
I see someone on YouTube thinks similarly:
I'm just mildly curious. She seems the best choice, and she's still going strong after a long break. And when one considers some of the turkey choices previously?
I don't know why she's never done a Bond song but you're absolutely right. Saw her on her "Soldier of Love" tour. She was 52 at that time and still smokin sultry.
I think it's probably a case of being TOO close to the 'ideal', given that they're trying (pathetically, but hey, successfully) to keep the franchise resuscitated with 'relevant and adaptable to current youth culture' stuff. The result is always a mishmash of oddity, but it still sells.
Now she's slightly older as a chanteuse, she's in the Bassey club too.
I'm probably the only one in the world who would cast a vote for her, but I would LOVE to see Cerys Matthews tackle a Bond song.
Although these might not be the finest examples, here are some videos of her. You might want to zip to the end of some of them, as most don't really kick in until near the end.

Because she is too damn cool! The Lady does what she wants when she wants and who can say that she's ever made a bad move. I think doing a Bond song would be blatantly commercial and I don't think she wants any part of that part of the pop world. Her continued massive worldwide success is one of the great unsung accomplishments of the last 30+ years. Saw her twice on last "Soldier of Love" tour and I was left dumbstruck both times.

Probably very true. She's very self-contained and centred, and gives every indication she knows all the scores. And it's refreshing to see that sort of genuine 'integrity'. They all claim that word, but they usually can't afford it.
Even a song like 'Smooth Operator' doesn't celebrate that kind of man, but has a fate-doom filled chord and melody structure that suggests he's a total bastard. And we can't have people say that about Jimmy, now, can we.
I agree completely. She is the rare performer of international status who chooses when and how she will re-emerge for her public. On the "Soldier of Love" shows she was the undisputed queen and ruler of the stage. She exuded effortless confidence and power over her all-male accompaniment. While many artists would jump at the chance to do a Bond song she probably would decline, now that I think about it.
