I think Fury ROAD deserves Oscars for cinematography, visual effects, sound, sound effects editing, editing, make-up, production design-set decoration, score, director, picture and maybe actress for Theron. I'm not saying it will win those, but deserves them. But if RETURN OF THE KING won many of those, I think FURY ROAD has a chance too. RETURN OF THE KING is a great film, but I think FURY ROAD is even better. I mention ROTK because it's a fantasy film as is FURY ROAD. What Miller has pulled off is incredible! He certainly deserves his second Oscar for this.

Hi Henry,

Like Terminator 2, FR may do well in the technical categories but has no chance at all of winning Best Picture. The ROTK win was really a sentiment award for the entire trilogy. I really can't see FR getting serious consideration for the 1980's trilogy. ROTK aside, when was the last time a "popcorn flick" won Best Picture? Even Star Wars, possibly the most influential film in the past half-century, didn't win. At least it was nominated.

FR may win the People's Choice award as a consolation prize, though. wink

Since FURY ROAD was released in May, it will be a faded memory by the time they decide Oscar nominations. It may deserve more, but, since it came out early in the year, it will be lucky if it gets a couple of technical nominations.

Nominations maybe for cinematography, production design, visual effects, sound, sound effects editing, and make-up, but it's going have some stiff competition. As far as the others - you're in dreamland. It doesn't stand a chance of director, picture or actress, and as for the score, there are at least 30 scores better than it (IMHO) this year already, and we're barely past the half-way point.

Bill Conti has more chance of a nomination.

I really think it has a shot for a picture and director nomination too! It is the best reviewed movie of the year so far, and some websites say it has a shot at those nominations. And like I said, DISTRICT 9 got a nomination and FR is better than that film.

NONE.

It doesn't need oscars, it's a perfectly fine movie and did well enough without. Oscars are for those movies that the industry people who vote on them believe people should have gone out to see, but turn out (in most cases) to be utter garbage. I would prefer Fury Road to stay clean of such bullshit and rather have it win at genre festivals where it is truly appreciated.

Oscars are a complete irrelevancy in general.
And they are an even greater irrelevancy to a maverick movie like this one.

DidnĀ“t Gladiator win for best movie back in 2001 or something?

It already won the Henry awards, which holds a lot more merit in my mind than what this Oscar guy thinks.

Henry, I'm glad for you that your favourite film was so well recognised on Sunday. If you're half as pleased about it as I am about Ennio (and to a lesser extent Leo), you must be well chuffed.
