Yes, very interesting, & I was wrong, they didn't use a synth, but used a harpsichord (two in fact), it sounds like a real labour of love & not just a sixties musical rip-off.

Mr. Burlingame's endorsement is encouraging.

And there is that somewhat hopeful second sentence in the penultimate paragraph.

Is this a download only?

CD arrived this morning big grin

It's on the Sony Classical label. There are four bonus tracks on the download release.

Looking at the booklet, it's nice for a change to see several photos of the musicians involved in recording this. There is a definite 'retro' vibe and when, for example, I play a track like 'Laced Drinks' I get an immediate Edwin Astley/ITC sort of feeling.

Really enjoying this. I note that in the interview he did with Jon Burlingame, Daniel Pemberton noted that Guy Ritchie said his music was the only showreel that didn't sound like all the others he'd heard. That feeling is present on the soundtrack, I think. Well worth a listen - I hope this brings Pemberton to a wider audience.

What Simon said ( no pun intended wink ), very retro but with a dose of Powell's Bourne sound in a few tracks. Lots of other influences either intentional or accidental ( I also thought Edwin Astley as well as Roy Budd ) and a large dose of Morricone too. ( Once Upon A Time In The West )

Really enjoying this.

I think many here will be disappointed to find that beside the merest hint that Jerry Goldsmith's theme doesn't figure.

You'd think that since this is basically an origin story that they could have sneaked it into the end credits.

Saw the movie last night. Pretty good. Some very cool photography. The score worked great in the film, but I doubt I'd want to listen to it apart from that.

This is one of the best contemporary film scores I have heard in YEARS...colorful, melodic and works like gangbusters in the film (where the music is mixed higher than the sound effects, for once). Fun movie, too. I can't wait to get the album. smile

Gave the album a spin today...man, what a great score. Too bad it'll almost certainly get passed over for Oscar consideration because the movie tanked so badly. frown Great melodies and excellent use of period songs.

I GUESS THEY THOUGHT "hey, not using the Bond theme worked for CASINO ROYALE........"

Just picked this soundtrack up, one of the best of 2015. Haven't seen the film but I'm loving the music. I was initially upset that the original theme song isn't included but this soundtrack is so good I find myself not caring. Besides, after ripping it to my player I simply added the TV theme at the end==it fits perfectly.

Agreed -- one of the top 10 of 2015. I've never seen the original TV series or, in fact, this new film, but I just ADORE the soundtrack album!

Totally agree about UNCLE, a really great album! I still listen to it often since I picked it up in August.

If you like this, you might enjoy the Soundtrack to Mortdecai, which I bought blind last year at Wonder Con on the recommendation of MV Gerhard. (Thanks, MV!)

It has a very similar vibe to the UNCLE soundtrack.

Count me in. I hold it as the most exhilarating score I stumbled across last year. And like others here, I didn't see either the original TV series or the movie! It actually came as a surprise to discover that the music is not only inspired by the sound of the 60's but also by the one of 70's. However it simply works as a terrific sonic experience. The various soloists including the crazy flute player are performing that fresh music in a mesmerizing manner. Thanks for the tip regarding MORDECAI. I will pay a listen to it.
