That really is a shame that they telegraphed the bad things that were happening before they happened because on the books it was a surprise when bad things happened. They did a great job of that. As for the disco, you can't fault the film makers for keeping that part from the book. It is part of what keeps me from wanting to see the film though. On the page disco is not so bad. But on the screen it is.

Yes, they literally telegraph (most) of the bad things before they happen. Like a character will say, (paraphrasing), "As long as nothing else bad happens..." Guess what happens in the very next scene? Something bad!

In truth I don't hate the disco music just so tired of the gimmick. Though it gets more, and MORE pronounced as the movie goes along.

mastadge: One of my biggest disappointments in the film was how much of the sciencey stuff they cut. The one science bit they left in there was a lot of fun, and it's a shame so much of the rest of the film was spent telling us what was going on instead of Scott using his ever-keen eye to find interesting ways to show us.

As this thread has persisted, and the streaming of the movie has begun, it's been confirmed that there are others besides me who feel this movie didn't reach the potential of its concept.

But this is a Ridley Scott-for hire project; and like the movies Brian DePalma signs onto instead of originating, it doesn't feel wrong to mainstream them with the crowd appeal factor.

I was hoping for more of a hard sci-fi emphasis as well.

Man they took out most of the science stuff too? So glad I read the book.

I'm enjoying the movie on a technical level, but not so much from performance or story aspects.

The book was apparently "all about" the technology, so I'm thinking the book will be better for me, too, Sirus.

And the pop music is annoying me.

You are talking to a guy who usually detests Ridley Scott. He came from commercials and I couldn't believe how many visuals in his many films look like they are done for purely the effect and sometimes don't even make sense. So after PROMETHEUS I expected the worst. Was I surprised. I assume he adapted almost a documentary in space style and let go of the fancy accoutrements. I loved it. May be my favorite Scott movie ever. Only real competition was the original ALIEN.
