The Sepia label has released a really reasonably priced 2-CD set of music from the 1963 film THE BEST OF CINERAMA. That film compiled scenes from the first five Cinerama travelogues into one film.

This 2-CD set from Sepia offers many fantastic cuts. Probably the most important cuts (included in the bonus section), are rehearsal or early takes of several Steiner cues from THIS IS CINERAMA. These are in full, beautiful stereo. They still have the slate numbers at the beginning, and most importantly, they have are devoid of any narration that intrudes upon this music in previous releases. Admittedly, the orchestra is not as tight as should be, and there are a few performer flubs here and there, but at least we can now hear this music without the dialogue or musical edits that have shown up on previous LP/CD releases.

Also, there is some wonderful Jerome Moross music from THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD. There is about 9:30 of his music for "The Holy Land" sequence which did not appear on on the standalone Sepia CD of THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD. It is great to hear the original 1955 recording of this music.

And there are some wonderful portions of Tiomkin's SEARCH FOR PARADISE, re-edidted and remixed for THE BEST OF CINERAMA.

A wonderful CD release.

The CD has been mixed in full stereo from 6 & 7 track Cinerama 35mm full coats, and presented in Dolby Surround with much of it on CD for the first time.

This is indeed a very welcome release. Unfortunately though, track 2 disc 2 is not the Exit Music from Search for Paradise; it's actually the Exit Music from Seven Wonders of the World.

Sepia certainly deserves very high praise for its splendid Cinerama cd series

I would just like to remind Moross admirers of something I noted in an earlier thread, namely that prior to Sepia's superb Seven Wonders release, an online US company ( legal?) issued a 2-cd set of the complete soundtrack ( dialogue included ) and, accordingly. every single note of music by all 4 composers is included.

A pity that the company did nor follow suit with a similar release of Search for Paradise

Is this not something that one can obtain from the video releases?
