Great performance from Chuck in this one. Joan Hackett too, is excellent. Very under-rated film, with a terrific music score by David Raksin. A Penny for your thoughts?

A penny for your thoughts, Mr. MacMillan?
I will take you up on that!

This thread is instrumental in helping determine what to watch tonight.

Donald Pleasence is very penny-charming as Mr nasty-as-usual.

Antony zerbe and a rare film performance from lee majors.

And yes, Donald was quite chilling.

And, it wasn't until I heard the commentary track on the DVD that I became aware that the kid was the director's son, acting under another name (to avoid any accusation of nepotism.) John Gries later went on to a long career as a character actor.

Precisely . . . but not before running in with Bruce Dern. Having just seen the movie a couple of times I have to say the song, The Lonely Rider, synopsis the movie agonizingly and with brevity.
There is also an attempt to use language in an authentically local way, or so it seems to me.

Who is the line-rider?

Was it a total coincidence that the title character used the names of the kids on LOST IN SPACE?

As Will Penny was written by Tom Gries, perhaps the answer to this question died with him.
Gries directed episodes for a lot of various television series, but none from Lost In Space so my guess is that it is simply a coincidence.

Thanks. I like Heston, Majors, and the faint suggestion of LIS, so if this thing ever shows up on TV, I hope I can catch it. Maybe TCM will show it.
