Is the decade the 40's ? That's a fine decade. Is there enough music in the two Glenn Miller Fox features to fill two CDs? Yes. So, does it mean it's SUN VALLEY SERENADE and ORCHESTRA WIVES?

Sounds wonderful! I'll be phoning PENNSYLVANIA 6-5000 to put in my order! When we were trying to figure this out, I completely forgot the old CD of this material. Wasn't it on Mercury?.....and, I think, back in the 1980s. I haven't played that in years and years. As I recall, the old laserdiscs of the two pictures, which had some sections of the music in push-pull stereo, sounded better than the CD. I hope the stereo material has been reassembled for this Kritzerland release and that there is more of the underscore as well. If this is, indeed, what Bruce has assembled, it's certainly out of left field, but most welcome, and will appeal to the Golden Agers among us, as well as the large crowd of Big Band fans in other parts of the internet. Can't wait. When will this release be announced?

Yes, the old UMG CD was (disappointingly) in mono....

All the music for both of these films was mono. The "stereo" versions were fake and the misinformation about them has been out there for years. From Mike Matessino: It should be noted that while the films were given a synthesized stereo treatment in the early 1990s for home video, all of the original music elements are, in fact, monaural. Yet they remain as clear and vibrant as the day they were recorded. Matessino did this restoration and had all the original materials from the vaults - none of the previous releases sound very good - this does - and it has everything - all the incidental scoring (some by Mockridge and Buttolph), lots of never before released tracks, and great bonus material - some of the bonus material was released at some point but taken right off a print of the film - you can imagine what THAT sounded like. I can only tell you, what Mike has done is amazing, and each CD clocks in at over seventy-eight minutes. If you love this era or Mr. Miller you'll know how important this is, as is ANY film music release that goes as far back as this one does, i.e 1941 and 1942.

If you like fake stereo tracks, the home video releases have them. That is not and will never be of interest to me, nor should it be to anyone restoring these soundtracks. They were recored in mono all the way, and that's the way we're releasing them because to do otherwise is not being true to the recordings. Of course, if we released the fake stereo there would be an even louder outcry from the purists, and they would be right, of course. In other words, can't win. All I can say is these two soundtracks finally sound as they should. The Mercury CD sounds AWFUL and as I've already said, the bonus material that's floating out there (we have bonus material that NO one has heard) was taken right off a print of the film - not exactly the quality I'd care to have. I hope our Golden Age folks will buy it, but given the reaction to Stormy Weather, which is one of the most amazing CDs we've ever issued, who knows? Where we win here is that thank God this will appeal to the Glenn Miller fans, and let me tell you that's a much larger group than soundtrack enthusiasts.
