For me, tthis animated series by Filmation is the only Tarzan that "matters." (Though I liked the Ron Ely series, too):

Two-disc set of the complete first season June 16, 2016--a tie-in with the upcoming new film, no doubt.

You're kidding, right? Because if not, all I can say is "Good Lord!"

Give me the Johnny Weissmuller MGM Tarzan movies any day.

By the way, I do have the Ron Ely TV Tarzan's on DVD. Quite enjoyed seeing them again -- after forty years or more. But, I still prefer Tarzan when he's monosyllabic.

You can keep yer Weisenheimer guy and Cheetah-as-wedding officiator though I do appreciate Jane's erotic swimming scene showing off Maureen O'Sullivan--or am I thinking of Julie Adams from Creature of the Black Lagoon? You wear the ape mask in this forum, you tell us... wink

Don't know how I feel about it now. I haven't seen the show since it aired. But going on nostalgia factor it reminds me how much I loved Saturday morning cartoons. I watched them religiously during that period in my life. I can still hum Lassie's Rescue Rangers song!

Hey, for $14.99 it's worth reinvestigating! smile

I felt the same way about Filmation's 1979 Flash Gordon animated series. It looked great and while it was a bit clunky as most children's stuff can be--like Star Wars, for instance--I still found it held up pretty well.

Phelps, I'm firmly on your side of the team.
I saw on German TV back in the beginning of the 80s, maybe even end 70s, and what got me was the music. Some ST TAS and the theme was the clincher. When this comes out I'll be checking it out.
Over and out.

It's the nude swimming scene from 1934's TARZAN AND HIS MATE, the best of the '30s MGM Tarzan movies and I think the best Tarzan movie ever.

As for Maureen O'Sullivan ....in those early Tazan movies..... Yeah.... Bungle in the jungle? Oh, yeah! By the way, she was body-doubled.

Is anybody else looking forward to the new Tarzan movie this summer? I am. From the trailers I think it looks well-produced, but I just hope the script is as well-produced and not too campy.

Tarzan is best when it's played straight because it really is rather absurd. Rather!

Coincidentally, the same actor voiced both Tarzan and Flash Gordon (and Thundarr the Barbarian, while we're at it), the late Robert Ridgely.

He also appeared as the executioner in two Mel Brooks films, "Blazing Saddles" and "Robin Hood Men in Tights."

His final role was in "Boogie Nights."

I just remembered something.... Does anybody else here remember the kind of "Tarzan in Space" Hanna-Barbera cartoon from 1967 -- when I was a kid -- THE HERCULOIDS?
