One great perk of having a sister that works for APPLE in Cupertino, is getting to go to cool events from time to time. Last night she took me to a screening of FOR THE LOVE OF SPOCK with Adam Nimoy in attendance for intro and Q&A afterwards at the Apple Campus. What a great night! Adam was quite nice and the film itself, although being a tad long, a 2 hour and 30 minute documentary, was truly a labor of love and a very entertaining production. Nicholas Pike provided the great score. Adam said they had tried a few other composers, not mentioning any names, before they settled on Pike. He said they hired the Best and cheapest 60 piece orchestra in the world, The Macedonian Phiharmonic I believe or Symphony and they did Pike's score true justice.
Watched the DVD last night. First half was excellent, exactly what a Trekker would want to know and see (just wish they'd shown LN's THEM! cameo). Discovering that Adam and I are same age gave the viewing an added poignancy, as in we were both ten when Spock debuted and Daddy hit the road to Legendary. The second half...well, you can only take so much of all the dysfunction and alcohol and drug rehabbing and father and son finding themselves and each other business. 'S become an old story if not cliche. Kinda got maudlin.
