Zoob, my dear friend… You really need to start thinking with your BIG HEAD, instead of the smaller one.

But Troi had a nicer rack. Sorry Whoop. Troi looked good in her sometimes-seen plunging-neckline costume, but Guinan had a more entertaining personality. It's a difficult problem.

But Troi had a nicer rack. Sorry Whoop. No, Who-pie didn't have boobs -- she had rolls of fat that rolled over other rolls of fat and created the appearance of boobs.

My take on it was that Guinan would listen to something and then toss off a weirdly enigmatic remark as a response, while Troi, quite rightly, would listen patiently to an entire issue and peel away the layers of the issue with more questions and encouragement. One was very informal (with probably much less legal liabilities LOL) and the other was official (and much more protected against possible litigation LOLx2). I admire handsome women, but Troi was hotter. I think Sirtis gets better looking with age. Remember that one shot where she answers Riker's knock with the ensign behind her just getting dressed? That outfit was amazing! Which episode/movie was that?!

Well, A) Whoopie just wanted to be a part of Star Trek on a recurring basis mainly because Nichelle Nichols was sort of a hero for her. B) She was far too expensive to be a regular. As a character, Troi was conceived and written badly. The "feel good" 80's seemed to need a shrink, but no other ship really had one as an ongoing character. DS9 ended up with one when they replaced Jadzia with Ezri, but otherwise, the idea of a counselor seems okay but not as a regular.

I really liked the first season once they got past the midpoint. They really found a nice, dark momentum that got lost when the writer's strike delayed the second season and they had to scramble for scripts. It took a little while for year two to get going, but it wasn't pretty. There was a revolving door of producers and writers until the late Michael Piller came in and grounded everything. However, the freshness and experimentation pretty much stopped. It became a family drama about Federation outposts, science stations and visiting family members.

Man, oh Man, I'm glad I decided not watch ST:TNG after the first few episodes... Seriously? Oh wow. After some really stinky first season shows where they were finding their footing, it got a lot better. Apart from a few duds, second and third season were excellent. Fourth, too, but not so much. It wouldn't have run another 6 seasons and climaxed with some terrible feature films if it hadn't improved markedly. I thought this was common knowledge amongst Trekkers. I should take my own advice regarding ST: DS9. Folks say that became a great series, but I can't make it thru the first couple episodes. I've tried over the years, but it gets worse each time that I can't even finish the pilot. Unlike jenkwombat, I feel like I'm missing out, not justified in disliking it.
