Still in love with these two cues on the album, really hoping a full score release surfaces soon. As much as I detest download-only options, if that's what it takes to get this out there, like ME BEFORE YOU, I'll be fine with it.
Still enjoying this gorgeous score. Romcoms always give composers leeway to create old-fashioned, lyrical, thematic scores. There are a number of standout tracks but I can't find samples on YouTube to post.
One of my favorite tracks is "Race to Hospital". Interesting that Armstrong also had a cue called "Rush to Hospital" in his score for ME BEFORE YOU earlier this year. I'm so glad to see him getting so much work, such a gifted composer.
Saw the film earlier today at the final show of it's run at our local cinema here in south London. Film has been successful in UK and had it's run extended by a week.
You either love these movies or you don't. I've found them all good fun and this one is no exception. Renee Zellweger is again excellent, she is perfect as Bridget.
Craig Armstrong composed a full score for the film and it is gorgeous and has been released on a 40 odd minute download by Universal. However, not very much made it into the final cut of the film. Mainly a song based score. Some songs are very effective, others are trite and obvious....
Not sure how this works. Do the production team commission a full score and license songs and then see what works best during the editing or was a song based soundtrack always the preference with a score commissioned to fill in those moments when a song isn't appropriate?
Anyway, I enjoy Craig Armstrong's score. A pity that the Bridget Jones Piano Theme wasn't used over the closing titles but there you go....
I would say your guess is pretty spot-on Peter. I'm sure they start out with good intentions of using a full score (having spotted the damn thing) but as all those juicy song rights become available, the producers just can't resist inserting a crowd-pleasing song here, there and everywhere to cheer up the punters! Just listened to this score now (and ME BEFORE YOU previously) and both are lovely Craig Armstrong soundtracks that typify his romantic musical voice. ME BEFORE YOU is a bit sadder and bittersweet (obvs) while BRIDGET sounds like LOVE ACTUALLY 2, but both are just full on great romantic scores.
