Just finished watching blu-ray. Excellent on all counts. Beautiful blending of Meyers & McDowell's commentary. Meyers talks about wanting Rozsa because he wanted a score with a sound like Thief of Baghdad. He also mentions that Warners wanted to scrap the score but he put an ad in a newspaper congratulating Rozsa on the score so Warners would be embarrassed in removing it. Always loved the film. I remember when I saw it the audience went wild when the date shown in the film (Nov. 5, 1979) was that day. McDowell & Meyers also talk about the budding romance between Steenburgen & McDowell adding to their romance in the film.
I saw the movie when it was released in the cinema, but did not notice something that is visible on the DVD version, but did not jump out at me until I saw the Blu-ray remaster.
Wells has just arrived in 1979, and the "Point of Origin" indicator has updated to 1979—now that the voyage is complete. (In BACK TO THE FUTURE Doc made three displays. Wells combined the "Origin" and "Present Time" indicators. Could be a little confusing.)
In the closeup as Wells pulls the RRL key, "jigsawing" is visible around the 1979 window of the Point of Origin indicator. The stage prop must have been incorrectly set during photography, and the post production fix had some shift in the film registration.
Remember that scene in The Great Race "There's no such thing as thunder and lightning in the North Pole...BOOM!" and Jack Lemmon's eyes slowly creep upward?
