I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith's music but I think I must side with director Richard Donner on this one. Peck's Ambassador character is not driven by satanic forces but by a tragic attempt to destroy them. I feel the film version better conveys this scene as an attempt to put a stop to evil, but it also reveals the humanity of the situation because Thorne intends to kill a young boy who is his adopted son. The restored version is more climactic and fits the action perfectly, but for me the film version makes this a hair standing on end moment.
