So after the smashing success of Agnes of God, I wanted to hear what you folks think will be next?

My guess is:

No Way Out - Maurice Jarre - which is a mmuch sought after OOP release from what I've read on the board over the past couple of years.

All I did was take a quick gander at the Wiki-Varese CD list, and make some guesses.

Your turn!

Varese already released "Tai-Pan" with separate tracks in their Encore range in 2012.

Well my bad, removed that from my post. Thanks. smile

Graeme Revell's Power Rangers score could really use a reissue for improved sound...and would normally warrant 500 copies I suspect. HOWEVER, with the upcoming Power Rangers film with which to tie in, the timing has never been better if Varese would ever consider doing a Deluxe Edition of this fine thematic orchestral score (still 1500 or even 1000 should do it, I think).

Thumbs up to that.

If titles never before available on CD are eligible for this series (I'm assuming there isn't going to be another LP to CD box), here is the list of what Varese LPs remain to be reissued:

STV 81117 Blood And Sand - Alfred Newman / Golden Earrings - Victor Young
STV 81137 Prince Of The City - Paul Chihara
STV 81159 The Twelve Chairs - John Morris
STV 81163 Slapstick (Of Another Kind) - Morton Stevens, Michel Legrand
STV 81164 Eating Raoul - Arlon Ober
STV 81186 Young Warriors - Robert J. Walsh
STV 81210 Blame It On Rio - Kenneth Wannberg
STV 81222 The Fourth Man - Loek Dikker
STV 81224 Swann In Love - Hans Werner Henze / Verlorene Ehre Der Katharina Blum
STV 81229 Places In The Heart - John Kander
STV 81232 The Flamingo Kid - Curt Sobel
STV 81239 Certain Fury - George Masenburg, Russell Kunkel, Bill Payne
STV 81243 The Gods Must Be Crazy - John Bosshoff
STV 81245 Christopher Columbus - Riz Ortolani
STV 81247 Just The Way You Are - Vladimir Cosma / Wetherby - Nick Bicât
STV 81251 Dance With A Stranger - Richard Hartley
STV 81255 Ediths Tagebuch - Jürgen Knieper
STV 81258 Paroles Et Musique - Michel Legrand
STV 81259 The Red Pony - Aaron Copland
STV 81265 Marie - Francis Lai
STV 81281 Ewoks: Caravan of Courage, an Ewok Adventure/ The battle for Endor - Peter Bernstein
STV 81303 Firewalker - Gary Chang
STV 81305 Down Twisted - Eric Allaman
STV 81307 The Bedroom Window - Michael Shrieve, Patrick Gleeson
STV 81309 From The Hip - Paul Zaza
STV 81319 Three For The Road - Barry Goldberg
STV 81321 Capriccio - Riz Ortolani
STV 81336 Nowhere To Hide - Brad Fiedel
STV 81353 Anna - Greg Hawkes
-----704.440 Pass the Ammo - Carter Burwell
-----704.570 Dead Heat - Ernest Troost
XCD-1001 Tiger Warsaw - Ernest Troost

I just took that from the end of the LP to CD thread, but removed Deadly Friend (Charles Bernstein) and Silent Running (Peter Shickele) from the list because they were recently reissued by Varese and Intrada, respectively.

I think a lot of these titles would make more sense at 500 copies than a beloved Delerue score, but that's just me. Oh, another Paul Chihara score besides Prince of the City that would fit well for this series (though it's been out on CD before so not in the above list): James Clavell's Noble House.

What has to be true for something to qualify for the 500 series?

I was thinking more Delerue, like maybe A Little Romance. Mind you, that's been out of print so long I would have thought a 1000 number Encore would be more appropriate for that title.

Cheers

I think any Delerue, barring perhaps some of his most obscure TV efforts, warrants at least 1000 copies...but that's just me.

Another 90s Varese title that could use a facelift for improved sound quality: Patrick Doyle's Needful Things. But if there's any missing music for that (been a while since I saw the film so I'm not sure, but I think there was a lot of score in it) I really hope it's a future Deluxe Edition because it's a masterpiece and deserves to have every note out there.

Just give me The Black Cauldron (EB/Utah Symph) and I'll be happy.

Good call. Are there any other unique re-recordings which Varese controls that could use a remastering/reissue? Maybe Miklos Rozsa's The Last Embrace? Varese reissued their Fedora and Eye of the Needle albums in the past few years as Encores, but not that.

Mainly because Intrada released the film tracks a few years ago?

Hear, hear regardless of whoever controls the complicated rights.

As they did with The Black Cauldron. But with both scores Varese produced unique recordings with their respective composers, and though I prefer the film recordings in both cases the album recordings have their merits as well. I'd spring for a remastered 500 reissue of both Last Embrace and Black Cauldron, personally.

Definitely have a feeling that NO WAY OUT is coming next year. One of the more underrated Jarre synth scores.

APRIL 17 the next 500 drops - think it might be anything we've mentioned here?

Like last time I hope we get the name of the title before the release, it would be good to know so everyone can prioritise their purchases, especially with the Intrada and LLL sale.

Seems that this time we will know the title only on Monday. And this is not so good. I mean - they said that this will be some obscure, not VERY famous titles. For such titles I'd like to have some time (also - for several listening - thanks for YouTube!) before I made final decision about ordering.
This time I'll probably pass on this title in any case - I already ordered TOO much CDs from Intrada. Sorry Varese - Intrada gave their offer earlier, so "who was the first, that will get money" smile
