Warner Archive has revealed that it is preparing a Blu-ray release of director Sydney Pollack's film The Yakuza (1974), starring Robert Mitchum, Ken Takakura, Brian Keith, Herb Edelman, and Richard Jordan. The release will be available for purchase in February
Synopsis: Former private eye Harry Kilmer knows a lot about Japan - and the gangsters who keep an iron grip on its gambling, prostitution and protection rackets. He knows there's a right way to approach the brutal underworld. And he knows there's one thing powerful mobsters respect: greater power.
Robert Mitchum is Kilmer in this haunting East-meets-West-head-on thriller powered by a team of heavy Hollywood hitters: writers Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and Robert Towne (Chinatown) and director Sydney Pollack (The Interpreter). Co-starring Japan's Takakura Ken and veteran character actor Brian Keith. The Yakuza is a modern film noir in which honor and loyalty become issues of life and death. Violence erupts with the speed of a Tokyo-bound bullet train. And the last thing to die is tradition.
Special Features: Audio Commentary by Director Sydney Pollack Promises to Keep - Featurette Theatrical Trailer Optional English SDH subtitles
Ah! Beat me to it, great release. I'm going to buy this & Battleground & of course Bad Day At Black Rock. It could be the start of a great year for catalogue releases.

What about Wait Until Dark?
I'm sure it's a great film (with a great score), but I never saw it in the sixties (or ever), so I don't have a connection to it (& I'm not that keen on suspense). On the other hand, I've been banging on about a Blu-ray release for Bad Day At Black Rock for ages, one of the best American films of the fifties.
This is the Florida area direct debit messaging system. Mr Jim Phelps is currently unavailable to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone (beeeeeeeep). All calls charged at the normal rate of a billion dollars per second of silence.

I got a preview of the HD transfer of BAD DAY on TCM around a week ago. You should enjoy it.
You should consider a blind buy of WAIT UNTIL DARK. I doubt you'd regret the purchase, but if you do, I'll buy it off you.
