I admit it.

I had a stack of unopened CDs that had been growing since the end of October 2016.

I was getting to them and logging them into my database.

This weekend, I finally removed the shrink wrap from "The Omen: 40th Anniversary Edition".

I opened the case and...HUH!...no CD. Everything else was perfect. But no CD.

The label only makes corrections to such things within 30 days of purchase.

That's fair. I understand that and have learned from it.

Have only had one other CD that was missing a CD....that was a Laurence Rosenthal 2-CD set.

Happily, I got that missing CD replaced by the label even though the title was OOP.

But there are never guarantees.

I always check my pizzas upon delivery to be sure there's no onions or anchovies. But I'll heed your advice about CDs, too. smile

So you got...

I don't find that fair at all.
I find it poor customer service.
GOOD customer service is when they understand that sometimes unintentional mistakes happen and they are more than happy to make a goodwill gesture to ensure you keep buying their product.

I don't think it's quite fair either. Nobody is paying that much for a jewel case and a booklet. As long as there are replacement CD's, a replacement for a product that was not recieved should be given. I could understand if there were no replacements or it was several years later and maybe no records any longer to indicate you did make the purchase.

If I get a flat screen monitor and the package arrives and I open it up six months later and all there is, is the box and the manual, you better believe I'm gonna give hell to get the actual product.

30 days isn't a long window. Especially if you are purchasing it as a gift for someone's birthday or holiday. Imagine being gifted an empty case!

Write to the label and explain the situation. I have had similar experiences and although it sometimes was after the deadline before I discovered a problem the companies usually have been very understanding and made good on the error.

In the Saints Be Praised division:

An angel has stepped forward and offered to replace my missing CD.

I was not expecting it. And it's label-connected, too.

Thanks.

But...for the record, CHECK YOUR CDs when you get them.

Take it from me!

Gulp!-I have about 40+ cds of stuff from over last few years that I have unopened. Although Ive never encountered a missing. Unless one turns out to be defective then I may have a problem. But then again the Labels themselves come to the rescue very quickly!

I always remove the shrink wrap from CDs and Blu-Rays as soon as I get them home, even if I'm not planning on listening to/watching them for a while. Unwrapping a new purchase is one of the great pleasures of collecting. smile

Why the hell would anyone wait that long to open a package?

Never had a missing CD. Had the wrong CD a number of times.

I have so many still sealed CD's from a while ago I can easily see why anyone would wait. I'm getting so many at such a rapid rate I can barely keep up. PLUS living in LA and working at the Bande keeps me so darn busy, in a good way, you get a lot less free time. Ron was helped by "someone", he he he!! All good people!

You guys are funny with the unopened cds...to this day, I get excited when a package arrives, and always take the 2-10 mins. to open everything, scan the liner notes for good info (and make sure the local, reviled beatnik I cannot stand did NOT write them), and I guess, now, make sure the bloody disc is in there.
Really, is every one THAT busy they can't take a couple minutes to check out their prize??

Until about two months ago, I had well over 150-200 soundtrack CDs that were still factory sealed. We're talking Goldsmith, Horner, Williams, Silvestri and many others.

As we recently relocated to a different city, and all our stuff was going into storage, I had no choice but to open as many up for ripping to iTunes.

Fortunately only one set had an issue (double set missing CD 2) which the label promptly sorted out.

I still have approximately 50-75 titles that are sealed which I didn't manage to get to (mostly Bernstein and Barry).

On the subject of incredible service, years after the fact, see this post: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=86250&forumID=1&archive=0

Just this Saturday I bought a complete TV series on Blu-ray, and at home I found that there were two copies of the final disc, and no copy of the second to last disc. I'm taking it back with my receipt next Saturday.

I've had such good luck so far that I was stunned by this, but I'm told production errors are common nowadays. If I get a replacement box, I'll be checking it thoroughly before leaving the store.

It boggles me that people would buy a CD and not listen to it right away. I can understand being busy for a couple days....but weeks or months?

Also I can't say I've ever had a wrong or missing CD from a sealed disc.

Well, in my case it's more like years. I literally just unsealed (in the last month or two):

Boys From Brazil
Players
Patton (Intrada)
Sand Pebbles (Intrada)
Wolfen (Horner)
Uncommon Valor
One Little Indian
Super 8
Squanto
Lincoln
Black Sunday

...just to name a tiny few. And I bought all of them between 2010 and 2013. And I still haven't had time to listen to them.

Why? I have other commitments that keep me busy so I often buy CDs for my collection without even opening them, in the hope that I'll get to them one day. A lot of it has to do with the possibility of sellouts (although that happens a lot less in the past few years).
