So I listen to SST a lot. It’s usually running when I’m in the house. In the past I had to connect my mobile phone to a Bluetooth radio that I have in the kitchen, i.e. dial the Bluetooth mode on the kitchen radio, click the app, click on SST in the app. (The app is called 24Seven.FM).

I know, the tethering is no big deal, first world problems, and so on.

Still I was a bit annoyed by the fact that I had to perform several actions until the music started. This sometimes led to me not listening to soundtracks although I was at home because I was just too lazy to initiate the system for a short period of time. You can see the urgency in the matter. “Soundtrack enthusiast not listening to scores due to cumbersome setup and mild laziness!”. Something had to be done.

So I came up with a system that allows me to listen to my favorite soundtrack streaming station playing on a regular stereo with just one single click.

The reason for me posting this here is that there are a bunch of geeks among the fsm-community who may be interested in the technicalities of my implementation as well as due to the fact that I listen to soundtracks using the system (admittedly not the strongest of arguments).

However, I now have a system running where as soon as I enter the building a device on the wall (an old 2012 Nexus 7 tablet) switches on automagically (camera detects movements and switches the thing on as soon as someone walks by) and presents me with a bunch of choices. SST is one of them. I just click on the SST icon and several things happen in the background. The wall socket where my amplifier is plugged in turns on. The 24Seven.FM app is launched. The SST button in the app is pressed. Music plays.

Bonus feature: As long as it plays, the screen of the device is turned on so that I can always see which soundtrack I’m listening to right now since the app shows the album cover of the songs that are played.

Then when I’m done listening I just click somewhere on the device’s screen and automatically the app stops playing music, the amplifier is turned off and the device goes back to the mode where it detects movements but goes to black in case there are none.

This is exactly what I wanted for a long time now and it took me a lot of tweaking with a tool called “Tasker” to achieve it. (And a cheap wifi-adapter that’s plugged into the wall socket.)

If you’re interested in more details on how I “programmed” Tasker to do the stuff I’d be glad to share them here. For now that’s enough. Smooth and unimpeded listening to you guys!
