GREYHOUND---Tom Hanks is the star/writer of this Sony Pictures movie based on the CS Forester World War II novel THE GOOD SHEPHERD.

LIBERTY ROAD---movie underway based on the book THE BATTERED BASTARDS OF BASTOGNE during the Battle of the Bulge.

TOP GUN 2---Tom Cruise confirmed the sequel will probably start filming in 2018. Val Kilmer expressed an interest in returning as Iceman. The plot supposedly concerns the relevance of manned jet fighters in the drone era.

THE LAST FULL MEASURE---Vietnam War movie about Medal of Honor recipient Airman William H. Pitsenbarger. Jackson (KONG: SKULL ISLAND) star

THE GARBO NETWORK---Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) stars in this World War II movie about Juan Pujol Garcia ("Garbo"), MI5's top double agent who convinced Adolf Hitler that the D-Day invasion was going to be at the Pas de Calais instead of Normandy.

ICE STATION ZEBRA---long-gestating remake of the 1968 movie based on the Alistair MacLean novel that starred Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan and Ernest Borgnine. Christopher McQuarrie (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION) is no longer involved as the remake's writer/director.

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS---BBC three-part miniseries underway based on the classic 1898 HG Wells novel about a Martian invasion of England. Peter Hartness (DOCTOR WHO) is the writer.

OVERLORD---JJ Abrams World War II movie in which US paratroopers land in Normandy on D-Day and encounter supernatural forces in a French village.

SALT OF THE SEA---movie underway based on the World War II historical novel about the
sinking of the German military transport ship MV Wilhelm Gustloff by a Soviet submarine in which about 9,400 died---the largest loss in a single ship sinking in history and six time more than died in the sinking of the Titanic.

NO BETTER PLACE TO DIE---World War II movie underway about 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers who must hold a vital bridge on the Merderet River during D-Day. Dale Dye (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) is the writer/director.

I saw THE WALL last week. It's an OK psycho-drama, but a little farfetched.

The Mighty Eighth could be brilliant, & Tom Hanks has a great record for war series (Band Of Brothers & The Pacific), & there's a great film to be made about the battle of midway, I'm just not sure that Roland Emmerich is the guy to make it.

War films do seem to be back with a bang (no pun intended).
