MONDAY, JUNE 19

POWERLESS---DC Entertainment released an unaired episode with Adam West as guest star.

STAR TREK DISCOVERY---CBS announced the new series will premiere on September 24. All the following episodes will air on CBS All Access.

BLADE RUNNER 2049---new sequel photo released shows Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.

JURASSIC WORLD 2--producer Frank Marshall posted a photo welcoming Jeff Goldblum back as Ian Malcolm.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6---director Christopher McQuarrie posted a photo of the female cast members of the sequel: Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett, Rebecca Ferguson and Michelle Monaghan.
Also, McQuarrie commented on another of his sequels with Tom Cruise, LIVE DIE REPEAT AND REPEAT, the sequel to EDGE OF TOMORROW. He posted that the sequel will explain the original movie's ending, "The end of Edge I will finally make complete sense." McQuarrie also commented on the sequel's bizarre title, "I was not consulted."

DEADPOOL 2---Ryan Reynolds confirmed filming on the sequel has begun by posting a photo of himself at Hartley Caste in Vancouver wit the caption, "Dropped by the X-Mansion. Big f*cking surprise. No one's home."

OPERATION FINALE---Oscar Issac (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) and Ben Kingsley (GANDHI) star in this MGM movie about the Mossad hunt for Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Argentina.

DARK UNIVERSE---John Landis spoke about Universal Pictures' reboot of its classic monster movies, “If you remember with Universal back in the ’40s, once they made all their classics, they started cross-pollinating. HOUSE OF DRACULA, HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN – you know what they used to call those? Monster rallies! (laugh) And then of course, one of the great ironies is what was considered… OK – it’s over now!… was ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN which is actually a very funny movie and very respectful of the monsters. I think, y’know, maybe that’s one of the problems with Universal’s Dark Universe is that it isn’t respectful of the monsters.”
He added, “What’s happening is the studios now will make a film for $150, $200 million but they’re afraid to take risks. You asked me about the Dark Universe, if you’re gonna make a movie of THE MUMMY, why the f*ck do you need Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe?! As soon as you announce that Tom Cruise is in THE MUMMY, you know you’re not going to see a horror picture! It’s not gonna be THE MUMMY, it’s going to be the Tom Cruise Show. I don’t know.”
THE MUMMY is headed for $300 million worldwide after leading the international box office for the second weekend in a row.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR---Scarlett Johansson said INFINITY WAR's battle scene will have a lot more superheroes than in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR's airport battle scene, "In one particular scene, I think there’s 32 — there’s a lot. There’s so many of us. I don’t even know who’s a Marvel character and who’s a crew member, honestly.”

MARWENCOL---Diane Kruger (NATIONAL TREASURE) will co-star with Steve Carell in this Robert Zemeckis movie based on the documentary about a man who awakens from a coma and builds a 1/6 scale World War II Belgian model village as therapy. Kruger will play Deja Thoris, “the Belgin Witch of Marwen, who in a recurring scenario, revives Carell’s alter-ego every time he is killed by Nazis.”

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD---Zoe Kravitz commented on the feud between tom Hardy and Charlize Theron during the sequel's filming, “Yeah…They didn’t get along. We were also in the desert for so long. I think everyone was tired and confused and homesick and we saw nothing but sand for six months. It’s just, you go crazy, you do. I actually don’t know if it was one issue. I just think they weren’t vibing.”
Hardy later apologized to director George Miller for being a "d*ck" and being "frustrated. Theron later said, “From what I hear, he’s not like that on every movie – I hear he’s had good experiences.”

BATMAN BEGINS---Josh Hartnett said he regrets turning down the starring role, "It wasn’t about not doing studio films. At the time, what I was interested in was…the film that I did instead of that was a tiny film about a guy with Asperger’s Syndrome, falling in love with a woman with Asperger’s Syndrome. It was a true story [called] MOZART AND THE WHALE. It was more a question of what I wanted to do as opposed to what I didn’t want to do, and I always try to look at things that way.” Hartnett also turned down the starring role in Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN.

VENOM---producer Amy Pascal commented on the Sony Pictures superhero movies about Venom, Black Cat/Silver Sable and Spider-Man, "Well, those movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker. They’ll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other as well.”

FANTASTIC FOUR---Marvel studios head Kevin Feige commented on a possible Marvel movie, “[We have] no plans with the FANTASTIC FOUR right now. No discussions about it.”

MAN OF STEEL 2---a source denied rumors that Supergirl will be in the sequel.

THE WALKING DEAD---Steven Yeun commented about returning to the series, “I will leave it [a return] open to what makes sense, I wouldn’t want anybody to force anything but if it makes sense, then I am totally down. I owe THE WALKING DEAD my whole start, I was doing theater in Chicago, sketch comedy and improv, and then I moved to Los Angeles and that show opened the door to let me in to the business.”

STRANGER THINGS---producer Shawn Levy commented on Season 2, “Season two makes the Demogorgon look quaint. I was just in the edit room with the brothers yesterday, and we’re like, ‘this is definitely darker, I hope everyone’s down with this,’ because the threats to Hawkins and to our characters are bigger, darker, often times scarier. So people who found season one too scary for them, probably you’re going to be more scared by Season two."

TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT--Mark Wahlberg said the sequel will be "the last one" for him.

I think the only reason Universal is doing this Dark Universe crap is to renew its trademarks on its Classic Monsters. Follow the money.

Greed is the worst monster.

I doubt it. With the exception of the Gill Man - which Universal owns anyway - all of the other monsters in the Dark Universe roster are, I would have thought, all within the public domain.

Not sure why you are writing the series off as crap though. There have only been two movies thus far and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt you've seen them both (have you?) but even if you didn't like those it's a bit judgemental to assume all the others will be badly made rubbish. I personally think the Creature remake - if done well - could be great. I also have no problem with the studio tying them all together, as long as that is done properly rather than in a contrived way.

John Landis is talking shit lately. Why is he slagging cruise down again.. & then sayin, if he wasn't casted in the Mummy flops, jealousy. Dark Universe will be thin, 30s 40s 50s horror can't be made that quality anymore, they get over cooked.

I love Landis' earlier work, but he hasn't directed a good movie since Three Amigos.

He's known as an aficionado of the classic monster movies so he is probably just pissed off that he is no longer on anyone's list to direct one of the Dark Universe movies.

Here in the US, one can claim that remark as a charitable deduction on one's taxes.

Yes, I've seen them both -- massive wastes of time at best. You also don't know what you're talking about -- no surprise -- try titling a movie DRACULA or FRANKENSTEIN or THE WOLFMAN and find out what Universal has to say. And as for future "Dark Universe" movies being crap... well, hope for the best -- but expect the worst.

It's a bit convoluted. Universal owns the copyright/trademark for they're version of Frankenstein. Anyone can make a Frankenstein monster movie as long as it doesn't look like Universals Frankenstein monster, and call it something else. (Like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein) Same with Dracula.

The Creature was already remade as "Humanoids from the Deep". wink

I agree Cruises Mummy film looks like generic garbage. You compared it to 2004's Van Helsing which is right on the mark.

Yes, and Universal has a very important reason -- $$$$$ -- to keep the situation as is. You can make a mummy movie -- but you can't title it "The Mummy" unless you've reached a deal with Universal.

For Universal, making reboots (i.e. films with little artistic merit apart from a miracle) with titles such as DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, THE MUMMY, THE INVISIBLE MAN, THE WOLF MAN and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, keeps their exclusive right to those titles probably until the end of this century (by which time they'll probably do new reboots) -- and I contend that it is the most likely reason why the corporate entity know as Universal has launched this "Dark Universe" franchise -- 'cause it sure as hell ain't for the sake of art.

Van Helsing was from 2004? Obviously, the stake was not driven in hard enough.

But . . . that was . . . years ago. Can it be possible these are . . . cartoons with live actors? Have they just reinvented the wheel with . . . Dark Toons. Maybe they need to re-imagine their horror universe by pitting their monsters against Scooby and Shaggy.

Ya know, mebbe it should have been Scooby And Shaggy Meet The Mummy?
