Actually there's a BUS STOP episode with a similar plot to PUSHOVER.

Was it a remake or adaptation of "Pushover" or just a similar plot? I loved "Pushover" when I watched it for the first time last year.

Robert Altman wrote and directed but doesnt mean he wasnt influenced by PUSHOVER, although it's abit of a cliche plot. The episode was called "Door without a key." Howard Duff starred in the MacMurray role. The only clue police detectives have about a bank robber is a seemingly innocent woman who claims to barely know the robber. She and one of the detectives become romantically involved, she tumbles to having been the robber's girlfriend and suggests they arrange a double-cross when he shows up with the loot. The detective goes along with her.... Spoiler: at the last minute, when robber/boyfriend arrives, she display her true personality and desires, arranging for robber to kill detective. Like most of the series' O.Henry plots, noone wins at the end.

Owing to the enthusiasm you guys have generated I just reserved the DVD from the local library (for context) not having seen much less heard of the film and certainly not having heard its music.

Until now:

The last few minutes of "A Free Man" always makes me cry.... so beautiful!

Is that the cue starting at around 8:20? Whatever it is it's a beaut.

I may need to do the same with this release as I did with Papillon. I bought that one without having first seen the film; after all, it is Goldsmith. And I wasn't disappointed one bit. Guess I'll purchase this one. Everyone is saying that it is a wonderful score.

Good youtube, Howard. Yes, at the 8:20 mark is Goldsmith's secondary, gentle theme first associated with a lost child. It is lovely. The first 3 minutes and at 5:45, you hear Goldsmith's main theme and its variations from very rousing and action oriented to softer. He was master at this type of thematic writing.

I admit I didn't really care all that much for the movie, but I was immediately hooked on the score during its viewing.

This one deserved a second go-round. I never tire of listening to it.

Was anyone ever able to detect an audible difference between the 2009 and 2017 discs?
