How did I not know until this very minute that there's a new Thomas Newman score coming out next week?

Heard about the film but didn't know he was doing it. Cool!

Somebody JUST put it on YouTube. Sounds Newmany and somewhat inspired!

His 4th AR Rahman score wink in nearly as many years, after the two MARIGOLD HOTEL scores and MALALA.
I really like those 3, so hope this is more of the same, only different smile

Wow, several very lovely tracks on this. I DID know this was coming, but I wasn't expecting it to be as lively as it is. Kind of a classical Little Women vibe, outside of the opening and closing tracks which have more of a Exotic Marigold Hotel feel. I'm a Thomas Newman freak anyway, but am still really excited to get this next week.

This has elements of those scores (that end title!), but mostly it's like a cousin to Oscar & Lucinda.

It's now available on Google Play (and likely other streaming services as well).

What are the chances of this beautiful score getting an expanded treatment? Is it too young to fall in the realm of possible expansions?

Haven't seen the film yet, so I'm unaware whether or not any unreleased material exists.

I've never understand why people would crave an expansion when a) they don't know if there's anything to expand and/or b) they don't know what the extra material, if it exists, sounds like. I mean it makes literally no sense, especially when the album available now is so good.

When you're a big fan of a singer (let's say Adele), wouldn't you want a deluxe version of an album you love? Even though you're unaware what extra songs the gal recorded and what it sounds like?

For me, it's the same with scores. Why should it be any different? I'm saying this as a completist and as music lover.

Franky, I don't understand why my question would offend anyone? That being said, I don't want to start an off-topic discussion. So, if anyone has an answer to my question, much appreciated. wink

It's called “taking the chance to get even MORE of a good thing”! So what's the harm?

Sometimes complete scores can be tortuously long! I love the VICTORIA & ABDUL album as it is, however. I saw the flick, and there doesn't seem to be anything significant that didn't make the CD.

Ok, thanks John. Good to know.
Then I'm gonna buy the standard cd version.

I had hoped the ressurection of this thread was for other reasons than a call for expansion, but I can use the opportunity to say that I really like it. Newman did several great "Indian-style" scores around this period -- this, HE NAMED ME MALALA and the THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. MALALA is by far the best of them, but VICTORIA AND ABDUL wasn't shabby either.

The resurrection of this thread was for me a good reminder that I quite like this score and decided to listen to it again smile
