While I am for the most part not a fan of Elton John's music, it has been omnipresent enough that I like a few of his songs. I also credit him with having his own sound, unlike Billy Joel, whom I actually like, but who often came across as a pastiche artist. At least Elton IS Elton, and he wore that Donald Duck outfit, so Reg wins on that front, too. After decades of having forgotten all about its existence, for the past week "I'm Still Standing" has been stuck in my mind. I also like his songs "Your Song"; "Daniel"; "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues"; "Tiny Dancer." On the other hand, "Crocodile Rock"; "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" are imo truly putrid. "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" was everywhere in the '70s, wasn't it? That song played endlessly back then. My family had EJ's Greatest Hits LP--the one from the '70s with him sitting at the piano, wearing a white suit and hat with his hand on his chin.

I have the Greatest Hits album and love all the songs, including the putrid ones.

Elton is legendary and one of my favorite pop/rock artists. His string of early to mid seventies albums are fantastic, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a masterpiece in my own opinion. Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, All The Young Girls Love Alice, Roy Rogers, Harmony, the album is full of top notch pop songs and blazing rockers. Don't Shoot Me is also a great album with a lot of excellent songs not released as singles. I've avoided most of his greatest hits collections, since by their nature they recycle a lot of material. We've had the good fortune to see him in concert a number of times, going back to around 1977 or so and as recently as around 4 years back, and he still puts on a great live rock concert
