I only have LIFEFORCE and BACHELOR IN PARADISE, but just ordered SANTA CLAUS. Which ones should I get first?

I really liked his scores for "Sunflower", "The Molly Maguires", "Experiment in Terror" and "The White Dawn". Unfortunately these are out of print and are in the $60 range on Amazon.

So I'd recommend the still available "Charade", "Breakfast at Tiffanys", "Peter Gunn" and "Mr. Lucky".

One day left to get The Great Race at a discount at La La Land.
I was surprised how much I came to love this release. It's epic!

Breakfast At Tiffany's is a no-brainer IMO.
Hatari is essential as is Experiment In Terror
The Thief Who Came To Dinner is also packed with Mancini goodness (and still available at msrp).
Silver Streak is also really good and went OoP just a year ago IIRC so you should still be able to find it at a decent price if you keep your eyes open.

Regarding "Charade," get the film version if it is still in print.

I'd still go for that box set I mentioned. It has (most) of Mancini's soundtrack albums for RCA plus extensive bonus tracks (many exclusive to this release) in very decent sound quality.

I also got the 1958-1963 collection set which came today and is excellent! It was only $15!

You're in for a great journey henry!

You can't go wrong with many of the great suggestions already given, but let me add some more praise for Wait Until Dark (released by FSM) -- see the film to appreciate my single favorite Mancini score in context!

(Warning: it is not as melodically tuneful and fun as most of his other works.)

But my favorite Mancini score on album is The Thorn Birds. Chock full of beautiful themes.

The real untalked about gem in this box is Visions of Eight. It's in my top ten of Mancini scores. Especially the track "Theme for The Losers".

Hi Yavar, how are you? I actually got into my Mancini kick through my Kamen kick, I bought LIFEFORCE for Kamen's music, which I really like, and now love Mancini's work too.

I have a dollar copy that I got at the thrift store. I'm not sure if I ever played it.

anyone have an opinion on the Varese Club edition of Nightwing?

I was listening to the album on youtube, and I don't know if that is indicative of the actual sonic quality of the VS disc , the elements used, or just the vagaries of compression, but there seemed to be a good bit of sibilance and distortion.

I was interested in searching this out, but not if the audio quality of the release is lackluster.

I love his television themes, and enjoy the scores of his I've heard. I really need to explore more of his work.

I absolutely love this compilation: https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Pops-Henry-Mancini/dp/B0000034QY/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1535510799&sr=1-1&keywords=premier+pop+henry+mancini

Also, check out WAIT UNTIL DARK. Wonderful music.
