She works with a number of self-confessed geeks, and this question apparently came up, as it does. I gave her my view, which for the minute I’m keeping to myself, but what’s your view on this most important of topics?

Easy - 2

It's always been 2 really. It's a widely held view. It's a wonderful Swiss Army Knife.

It's not even a contest.
2 looks amazing, like a big massive BEAST of a pie. The wings point FORWARD, FFS!!!
The middle drops out to unleash Thunderbird 4 (which is a cool little sub in itself).
2 Baby!!! 2.

Thunderbirds might be the only time that being the fattest, biggest and slowest not only are no objection but two of those characteristics are part of its popularity.
My preference order: 2, 4, 5.
The other two never interested me and the only thing I still have to solve is which interest me the least. 1 is like a platypus in that it's a mix of swing wing aircraft and rocket, and therefore is quite an ugly bastard. Besides that it is merely fulfills a command post function, and those who just look on don't make for interesting characters.
3 looks more dedicated but it's a space vehicle, limited in it's function and therefore just boring.

2 in all its incarnations looks good, including the motion picture one even though that looks like the Futurama ship from some angles.
2, the most interesting Thunderbird, piloted by my most favourite of the Tracy-family.

Yes, 2 is what I told her. It was also the only one I had a plastic toy of when I was about 8 or 9.

For interest, there’s an almost life-sized model of TB3 at Humberside Airport. You can see it on google maps.

I always loved "2", but "3" is a close second.

Eat your heart out.

Yes it's a 2 from me too. I think as a kid it was 1, along with Scot as my fave Tracy brother. And as a little kid during the show's original showing, I had plastic toys of 1, 3 and 4. The latter was bigger than the others, and I left it for five minutes on my front door step. When I returned it was GONE!! Never got over it.

But 5 has to be pretty boring. It's not a moving craft as such, just a station. And the only one in the new series that no one obviously felt the need to be respectful of as it's totally different.

I had all four in the 60s, but the plastic ones, about 6/8 inches long. The later versions were metal. 4 came inside the pod. And it had a ramp. Never had the space station. Boring!

All you 2 lovers - to me that was the heavyweight, the pit pony that brought the load. That we always had to wait for.

1 was THE one! Fast, super stylish, and scott was cool.
Usually had to use the tip of his wing to keep something safe until virgil and the fat boy arrived.

Id love the ones where Scott had to chase the hood in a car coz he'd done some sneaky papperazzi pictures.

"Hey! You in the car! Pull over or you will force me to take action!" And when he failed to stop he would mutter under breath "ok buddy you asked for this" - he'd flick a switch and out would come the cannon and he'd blast the fkr off the road!
The hood would crash and be in an upturned, smouldering wreck of a car and the reel of film would burst out and he'd be muttering "Curses inter-nation-nal res-cue!" And the music would mock him with "wut wut wah"
TB 1 was the one!

Some would say this strategy should still be in operation today wink

I'll descent from the rest regarding 5. I always thought it was a cool looking space station. But I do question it having the "Thunderbird" moniker attacked to it. All the other Thunderbirds were service & utility vehicles.

I always wondered, did Jeff Tracy win custody of the kids?

Yes, but you wouldn’t believe the strings he had to pull.

“What’s the word? Thunderbird.
How’s it sold? Good and cold.
What’s the jive? Bird’s alive.
What’s the price? Thirty twice.”

Thunderbird - The American Classic, a citrus flavored fortified wine, 17.5% alcohol.
