I read with much interest a few issues ago, the interview with Ray Ellis. I was especially interested to see if there was ever a release of the 1967 Spider-Man music. In THAT article, no mention was made and I went away feeling dashed against the rocks. After all, who would interview Ray Ellis and NOT ask him if there was a Spider-Man OST planned--Especially since the complete collection was [at that time] coming out shortly. Now, lets jump ahead to our most recent issue of FSM. Well, what do I find? I find a review of a CD made by a pop group that calls themselves, "Volume." The CD entitled "The Amazing Spider-Band" has been made in 2002 and WITH Ray Ellis' help and permission. How can this be? Why were we not told about this in the Ray Ellis interview several issues ago? Not even a side bar mention. I subscribe to FSM to stay on top of the music-world's most hidden treasures--Soundtrack recordings. The magazine usually alerts me long before something that interests me is released. But I'm afraid the ball was dropped this time. Sad indeed. Something that I know Mr. Kendall has been "bugged" to release, I'm sure, and now we find out about it too late. Oh, late? What do I mean? The article credits a web site called CDbaby.com as the place to buy the CD. That site should have been checked before the URL was listed because they have been sold out of "Spider-Band" for months. Maybe had we been tipped to the fact that this CD existed way back when Ray Ellis was interviewed, the people that REALLY wanted the CD to LISTEN to might have gotten a chance to buy it. Now, I'm afraid it has fallen into the hands of the rogues at eBay and is selling for much more than $9.99. To fix this grievious error, I suggest this to Mr. Kendall: Add another FSM Silver Age classic to the list and see if you can record the 1967 Spider-Man music. BTW CAT, you know me. Email me. Thank you Electro

A new CD with rerecorded music from the 60s animated series comes from the label Vulture. Could you be a little more specific. What's the name of the album, where do they sell it? Are you sure is not Volume's?

Thank you Electro I feel as frustrated as you do. I also learned just too late that this Cd was not available, and now it remains uncertain as to when or if it will be in the near future. It's really a shame that this wonderful music has never been released in any form. And now we can't even buy this little 25 minutes re recording.

Yes, I knew the URL listed the cd as out-of-stock, but one of the band members informed me via email that the cd was being re-pressed and would be available in about 4 weeks. That was Sept. 24 so I had hoped it would be available again before the FSM issue went to print. The original tracks are lost, but you can hear SPIDER-MAN music in shows that utilise library music. If I was looking for this, I might start with Igo Kantor, producer AND music supervisor for KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (the IMDB indicates that he is still active in the biz), and see what music library he uses, and then search that. The compositions may not even be in Ellis' name anymore. None of the tracks were recorded from the tv. Those were the tracks I described as being the dead-on reconstructions. Unfortunately, those are not the downloadable tracks for some reason. It was a nice compliment though, albeit a back-handed one. There is a group called Mole City that also does this sort of thing. And it is a curiosity, not a reconstruction. And you can sort of hear Ellis' bass line, but that's all. I can't really recommend their work, but this I can. Jeff is correct about the packaging. It's very Varese. But we are talking about a small band's self-produced cd. Don’t expect anything as oppulent as DEMOLITION MAN or CARLITO'S WAY. I do agree with Electro, this should have been mentioned in the magazine in a more timely fashion. I was the one who brought it to FSMs attention in 2002 and just assumed that no one was interested when there was no response. This is certainly a more faithful rendition of the original material than Hammer Horror Warfare or anything by the Trotter Trio. Not to belittle those efforts by those groups. Re-recordings and adaptions are what they are, but by editor-at-large Jeff Bond's own admission, some of this is so good you'd think it was the original off the tv. And until better material is found…this is it. This is all we have. Fernando, I know you've been looking for this. If it's not available by Christmas, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do for you. I did buy a couple of these for gifts.

Hi Fernando, Sorry for the delay. I spend Christmas and New Year's with my in-laws in Ottawa. That's about 15 hours from where I live. Or 19 hours in a snowstorm.

I was really shocked to discover that the subject of this thread : the 1967 animated Spiderman series that was recently released on dvd...you can only get it now if you want to pay 80 bucks or more for it on Amazon. It's no longer available to the general public. Had I known that the license was going to run out on the release of this little gem of a series I would've purchased it as soon as it came out. It was the only time that they ever got Spiderman right. Those recent live action blockbusters are all well and good yet somehow they fall short compared to the charm of the 1967 series. Even with all the sloppy mistakes that Ralph Bakshi left in that he should've edited out or corrected, it was still a fun, fun, show. Love that one episode BLOTTO.And the other one with the Master Technician. And DIET OF DESTRUCTION the metal eating monster... [who created that thing? The Leader...??] The music by Ray Ellis and co is great too. Facinating reading about it on this thread. The unsung NON celebrity voice actors from Canada who worked on the show were brilliant as well.

The music from this series and the original Kung Fu (1970) are two Holy Grails of television music I am dying to find on CD. I know an album exists of Kung Fu but I don't think there's ever been a release of Ellis' music from Spiderman. It would be wicked cool for FSM to do a compilation of all Spiderman related music from the Ellis stuff to the Stu Phillips music from the live-action show which also had awesome music.
