I happen to love "Lifeguard," which I long had on VHS and bought as soon as it was released on DVD several years ago. And I bought Paul Williams' album with "Time And Tide" simply for that song. And I agree: I loved the instrumental versions of it heard through the movie. It was one of the movies that I transferred the entire audio onto reel-to-reel so I could listen to it (since they didn't seem to have a soundtrack). And I used to search high and low for music by Dale Menten. Everyone in the movie is wonderful, including Anne Archer as Elliott's lost love from high school and Lenka Peterson as his mother, who reminded me of my own mother. This makes me think of some of the music that Paul Williams wrote with John Williams for "Cinderella Liberty" -- I fell in love with "Nice To Be Around," the principal theme, as soon as I heard it in the theater, especially the wonderful version of it with Toots Thielemans on harmonica (and bought the soundtrack on LP and again as soon as it was released on CD). And while Paul Williams' vocal version works okay in the film, I much prefer Maureen McGovern's beautiful cover of it ... perfection! (Earl Klugh, on his "Late Night Guitar," has an interesting cover of it.)

Dale Menten posted the tracks on his Youtube channel within the last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK3S7Net52k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppS3jhmDOLY Not a fan of Archer in LIFEGUARD so much...now, Kathleen Quinlan? That's another story.
